Running the new project is optional. You can choose not to run this project by following the directions below. quote: In a few weeks we will be launching a new project which will use the LigandFit application to screen approximately 35 million potential drug molecules against several virus structures that could be used for bioterrorism.
This project will run in parallel to the Cancer Research Project as a secondary task. If you do not wish to participate in this project, please go to the device management section your member home page and select the device profile you are using. Near the bottom of the device profile you will find the project selections, de-select the secondary task (virus research project) and save your changes. Any device using that device profile will not be sent work for the new project.
It should be noted that screening these virus structures will also generate new leads for anti-cancer drugs. Also, the funding for the project ensures the continuance of the highly successful Cancer Research Project. Many organizations have contributed to this new project and we look forward to providing more detail as we progress toward the launch. UD Member News

I will certainly be taking part in this task. If Blair is serious about Iraq's moves to bioterrorise England, there's no way I'm going to let this one float by. Thanks for the heads-up, Deb

It doesn't say much more than you know already, but for anyone who doesn't get the e-mails from UD, here's the latest update on this: quote: UNITED DEVICES MEMBER E-MAIL ALERT — JANUARY 2003 New internet based research project launching next week
Next week we will launch a new Internet-based research project using the LigandFit application to screen approximately 35 million potential drug molecules against several virus structures that could be used for bioterrorism.
This project will run in parallel to the Cancer Research Project as a secondary task. If you do not wish to participate in this project, please go to the device management section of your member home page and select the device profile you are using. Near the bottom of the device profile you will find the project selections. De-select the secondary task (virus research project) and save your changes. It should be noted that screening these virus structures will also generate new leads for anti-cancer drugs. Also, the funding for the project ensures the continuance of the highly successful Cancer Research Project. Many organizations have contributed to this new project, and we look forward to providing more detail with next week's launch.

This is an opt OUT, not an opt IN If you want to stay with just cancer you have to go through the UD website bul*** to go find where they hell they hid this and then disable it in your profile.
Picture perfect penmanship here.

Pardon my tone, but I am madder than a wet kitten at the way this was added and how I had to go an a hunting expedition to figure out how to get rid of it. I joined to do cancer for a reason, not just 'cause I felt I had nothing better to do with my computer. I just cannot express how upset I am about this. Same as the last time UD pulled this.
Picture perfect penmanship here.
