Does this still log people who change their "Public Displayed Name" as well as two people coming from the same IP?

I could be wrong but I don't think it grabs two users with one IP. It uses the cookies that the forum sets. When it read's the cookies on login, it tags the discrepancy between the logged in info and the cookied info.
If you had two people using the same computer (say at work) it would keep showing the user as the same person even if one logs off and the other logs in.
Works great in my opinion.
Please correct if wrong...

If a user logs in from the same computer with more then 1 ID this will capture that user and it will show up in the log file.
If the user is using multiple PCs with different IP addresses and IDs there is nothing we can do.

Unfortunatly the only reason I was able to port it to 6.4 was that I did some work for another site. I would assume it would work for 6.5 with little or no changes. If you want I would be willing to add it to your site for free just to allow me to properly document it.

i'm also pretty interested in using that mod in my 6.5 and i guess this kind of hack is a MUST for everyone, just to avoid fakes and troubles caused by 'stoopid fakes/users' ...should be a standard feature in the upcoming 6.6 imho...

Well like I said I do not have a copy of UBB v6.5 or anything past v6.1.0.4 for that matter.
You can try to install it and let us all know if it works. OR I will do the install for free on your site just so I can confirm it does or make the necessary changes so it will.
Up to you...

Hi,
Just a quick note on this hack.
I can clearly see that some users use different login names from different computers behind the same proxy machine.
It does not detect them, althought they use the same ip address from the proxy machine.

Hi twslex, this hack doesnt use IP/Hostnames to detect a user with multiple accounts, because people on Dial-ip or using proxys would report invalid results. What it does is compare cookies on the users machine, and if the username component's are different then it flags that user as having multiple accounts.
Hope this helps!

Do you think this would work with 6.6.2 or greater?

I'm running 6.7.0, and apparently this won't work for me. Does anyone have any suggestions? We recently had to ban a couple people on our boards, and since they have AOL ids, they keep coming back under different AOL email addresses. Obviously we can't ban the IP address. Is there anyway to mod/hack the registration process, so that only people registering with certain "suspect" IPs could go into the registration queue? I'm a total newbie to UBB code, so I'm looking for any and all help. Thanks! Hook www.vsplanet.com

no, you can go into the CP, and on the same page as IP bans, you can ban AOL addresses. It would force users to use "real" email addresses

We get about 20 new members a week. I don't think my boss would be in favor of not allowing AOL users to sign up. I just checked, and we've had about 70 AOL users sign up since the beginning of the year.
I get what you're saying, but I don't think we can do that. But it certainly is an option I'll present.
Any other ideas?
