My first mod, ported to 6.7 and the new CP smile laugh cool

Modification Name: Chat Mod

Author(s): LK laugh

Description: Lets you chat with jIRC. It has full CP support, it's 100% wordletized, it automatically gets the nick of the user/GuestXXXXX (5 random digits) if it's a guest, replaces smilies with real smilies, and shows how many people are currently chatting.

Demo: http://www.lkworld.com

Requirements: UBB.classic 6.7.0 Beta Release 1 , jPilot License (unless you want to see an "unregistered" line after every sent message)

Download Link: ZIP File or MultiHack File (created by Allen)

Credits: Brett (raiyan) for JavaScript on forum summary idea, dj_rava for the Admin Command Buttons idea and Troy for supporting me all the way and for MultiHack, which a chat 6.7 version should be released with its format soon smile

Note: If you have an older version of Chat Mod, with jIRC 2.6.0 or older, you have to use http://www.jpilot.com/products/jirc/upgradekey.html to upgrade your license key. If you have an illegally-obtained key, it won't work smile

Number of Downloads: [img]https://www.ubbdev.com/lk/num.php?s=chat67.zip[/img]

very cool.. smile yay. I just need to finish getting my IRC server up now. smile

Just a note regarding the future of this hack though, word is that there will be a MAJOR upgrade to jirc very soon. This is supposedly to support multiple chans at the same time, etc. Kinda like a full mirc in jirc. So I just thought I'd let you know about it.

Thanks for the mod LK. smile I'm thrilled that you updated it. I'll be sure to get this up ASAP (after I get the server up).

Thanks, LK for upgrading this. As you know, I've been anxiously anticipating it. I'm sick with a sinus infection but hope to do this over the weekend. I see a couple of Unix versions to 6.7.1 beta at Infopop, but both readme's say they are full not upgrade. Is it OK to use these? I've done a backup and am ready to go.

Hmm, I posted this hours ago, but it isn't here...

I upgraded to 6.7 beta and then did the chat mod. I got the chat "join" line on the summary page, but when I click it, I get that I'm trying to access a page that doesn't exist. I do have the ubb_chat.cgi file. Any ideas?

It would not let me delete the duplicate, so I blanked it out. Lame, I know! I am still interested in comments about getting the mod to work!!!

Fixed some missing steps thanks to Debbie... Re-download chat67.zip if you've already got it. (differences: cp2_chat.pl, vars_wordlets_cp2.cgi, ultimatebb.cgi)

Thanks, LK for helping get this installed yesterday! I still can't connect. I can't get past the ident on a connect, so I get dumped as a bogus user. Where can I control this w/o having people have to type a command or is there a server still out ther that doesn't need this? I'm so close!

There are many servers, check the servers.ini file on mirc.com, try every one of them until you find a good one smile

I connect fine on mIRC but not w/ this mod, so mIRC must be doing the ident for me.

I finally got it working and can get into mIRC and log my chat. I pretty well have it stripped down to where a person can only change nickname to enter and then change colors, do sounds, and graemlins in the chat session. I tried to turn off all the messages, but I do seem to be getting the server messages, which are lengthy at connect.

Sounds like a server problem if I understand what you're saying, try another server wink yes, mIRC sends identd, and I don't know if jIRC does..

jIRC and mIRC both send identd, the identd port is low on the port scale and is blocked by windows XP's built in firewall; be sure it's disabled to have identd working.

IMHO, windows xp firewall = worthless, a real firewall is better :x... Something that at least allows you to customize access...

Does anybody have this working in 6.7.0? I followed the instructions and get:

You are attempting to reach a page that does not exist.

» Please use your browser's back button to return.

Here is my test board:

LK, ever think of using a free jIRC script? I use www.pjirc.com for UGN; has the same features and a whole lot more... Heck, multi channels and multi servers on mine wink .

caroth, I had that error when I didn't pay enough attention when I modified ultimatebb.cgi

I failed to put the "if ($ubb eq 'chat') {" portion below BOTH instances of:

} # end if
} # end if

When I changed it, it worked fine

yeh PJIRC is friggen nice, and free ($50+ for something with no multichannel support?), and has the features that jIRC doesn't... I've been using it for quite a while at UGN. You can see my demo at http://chat.undergroundnews.com/

New version (1.4.1) released: now supporting jIRC 2.8 beta. Overwrite your classes folder, ubb_chat, chat files. Also overwrite vars_wordlets_chat if you haven't changed it. If you have, only copy the "profile_err_nosuchuser" line.

Also rehack cp2_vars.cgi.

New in jIRC 2.8: you can use images instead of text buttons; DCC send; you can choose to see the IP address of users when they join the channel; you can choose to have special avatars for certain user names. New in Chat 1.4.1: the profile button redirects to the chatter's UBB user profile page.

I mean no disrespect to jpilot; but comeon, $10 would get you more users than $50...

One issue with the user profiles...

My board policy says that every user should register with their full name, for example "Ronald Reagan". In the chat all spaces are converted to underscores, and his name will be "Ronald_Reagan".

That means that a right-click and "See user profile" never works on my board.

Is it possible to hack this addon, so that the rightclick "converts back" to the original UBB public name with spaces, and show the profile?

My mistake..

In chat.cgi:
Find:
Code
	my @srec = &member_directory_slurp;
add below:
Code
	my $unick = $in{nick}; $unick =~ s/_/s/isg;
then find:
Code
		if ($_->[1] =~ m/^Q$in{nick}E$/i) {
replace with
Code
		if ($_->[1] =~ m/^Q$in{nick}E$/i || $_->[1] =~ m/^Q$unickE$/i) {
Let me know if it works, if so I'll update the zip.

Worked!

But... In Sweden we have the strange letters Ă„ Ă… and Ă–. If a username contains one of those, the username is cut off...

Example: David Karlström become David_Karlstr

Doesn´t look nice and the profile-viewing doesn´t work for these users.

Is it possible to fix that too?

Yes, it is possible. Just in ubb_chat.cgi replace Ä, °A, Ö, etc with simple A, A, O. Then in chat.cgi, do the same with $_->[1]. The problem is that I don't know whether it works on all systems, because maybe a non-European system might have a problem with "special" characters.

I don't believe that the IRC protocol supports non-english character's; so you'll have to have them filter to an english variable, such as what LK said above...

how might I disable the "guest" usability?

I'd like it for people to have to be logged in to the board to use the chat.

Add the following line to the second line of ubb_chat.cgi:
Code
&LoadTemplate("public_login") if (!$username);
untested, but most definitely should work.

so now it should read:

Code
# UBB Chat by LK for UBB 6.7.0 beta 1
&LoadTemplate("public_login") if (!$username);
use strict;

use vars qw(%vars_chat);
&RequireVars("$vars_config{VariablesPath}/vars_chat.cgi");

my $refresh = $vars_chat{refresh_time} * 60;
my $jtime = time();
my @file = &OpenFileAsArray("$vars_config{MembersPath}/chat.cgi");
my $IPAdd = &GetIPAddress;
???

or..

Code

# UBB Chat by LK for UBB 6.7.0 beta 1

use strict;
&LoadTemplate("public_login") if (!$username);
use vars qw(%vars_chat);
&RequireVars("$vars_config{VariablesPath}/vars_chat.cgi");

my $jtime = time();

also, it's not a big deal b/c I'm not using any images, but for some reason, the images/buttons are called from the cgi-bin rather than the noncgi. I'm not sure if it's something I did wrong or not. I just disabled them all anyways so as not to deal with them (I didn't want them in the first place). But still I figured it was worth mentioning.

Also the other thing was that I had initially wanted to load the jirc applet using the "pure" class. However my site is hosted with Digital Princeton and my irc server is here in my home. I had loaded the jirc applet ready to be served via Apache, but I didn't anticipate that the hack would have the applet already as a part of it to be hosted locally.

it took the chat page and put it under/into the login page. I just want it so that when people aren't logged in, it takes them to a page where they get:

here's how I placed it:

Code

# UBB Chat by LK for UBB 6.7.0 beta 1
&LoadTemplate("public_login") if (!$username);
use strict;

use vars qw(%vars_chat);
&RequireVars("$vars_config{VariablesPath}/vars_chat.cgi");

yeah, I thought it would be better with the login page since it saves them a click..

If you still want the login page, make it:
Code
if (!$username) { &LoadTemplate("public_login"); exit; }
otherwise, just make it:
Code
	&RequireUserLogin();

LK, it doesn't do anything. They still get logged in as "guest###".. they just get two headers, and a log in form as well. The guest functionality is still there though. frown

ahh ok... both of those last options worked quite nicely. I opted to go with the "&RequireUserLogin();" - I didn't realize it could be so simple. That works beautifully since it gives them the same thing they'd get otherwise if they tried to access any other resource that's restricted. Thanks LK. smile

You know, I'll be some people would love to have that in the control panel. Maybe as a general option for the chat, you could have "require users to log in to utilize chat" or something. It could even go on the first page. smile

alright... one more question..

in the CP - CHAT - GUI & States, we have the option to set:

Quote
quote:
Border Spacing:
The space of the border surrounding the applet. By default, there is no such border.
After I set this to "2" I cannot seem to find where to set the color of the border. It seems to take the applet background color? I'd love to make the border black if possible. I can even just edit this in a file if necessary,

Also - possibly a bug in the new beta jirc, when I enable the Title bar, nothing seems to appear in it? I thought that the topic was supposed to show in it? I thought maybe it was a color issue (text and bg having the same color), but it doesn't seem to be.

Any help would be awesome.

what would really just solve this, is if I knew what file I could edit this stuff directly from.. I don't mind adding the applet parameters manually. I just don't know what file that would be in. frown

My members are complaining that they can't send out invitations to the chat room via the board like they could in 6.5. Is there anyway to add this feature back to 6.7.1? help

This mod is great if you don't mind paying for a java applet; however I think there should be a freeware version using something like pJIRC :-/

Here I am again! My host literally disappeared off the planet, so I had to start over. I'm trying to get my chat to work again. As before, I can get into my channel #Tropictravelonline at MIRC using eu.undernet.org. From my UBB, though, I get get past the Nickname screen into the mod, and it pops up the name on the right, but in the text, I get nickserv no such nick on the first line and then on the next line I get not in any channel yet, type "join #your_channel" first. Whatever I try doesn't work. In my wordlet, I have tried Tropictravelonline as channel 1 w/ and w/o the # sign. Tried a number of other things in all the other parms.

I hope you don't mean "Wordlet" since it should be in the vars_chat.cgi file... URL please smile

I did poke around the vars_chat.cgi after playing with the control panel. The site is at http://www.tropictravelonline.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

The "not in a channel" message is odd, since you are actually in a channel.
About the nickserv thing, try to clear "Nick Authority String" (or NickAuthString of vars_chat.cgi).

Yes, I agree on the first thing. What do you mean by trying to clear Nick AUthority String?

Oops shocked

Go to CP - Chat - Connections tab, and erase the contents of "Nick Authority String". smile

I can use the channel in mIRC, so the problem is somehow tied to this mod. I rehacked the whole thing, same problem.

Could my problem be some other parameter? I have default name, nickname password, server password, channel password, server port, username, host name and also the channel name w/ # in front and server 1 and server 2. I just don't know why I get not in channel even though it puts the ID at the top.

Debbie, I think it's fixed now (you also have a brand new jIRC version)

UPDATE: version 1.4.3 is out!
I've decided not to include the jIRC version in the ZIP file anymore, so download 2.8.1 from www.jpilot.com .

Added CP support to all the new features. There are probably a couple of bugs (ie. the "default" tag of some of the new features), please let me know smile

Among the new features: multiple channels support (has to be enabled from CP).

Updated files: ubb_chat.cgi, vars_wordlets_cp2.cgi, cp2_vars.cgi

Note that v2.8.2 is out.
I couldn't test it yet, but the change log in jpilot.com notes it "Fiexed [fixed] user listing not appearing for private or secret channel type[s]"

Hiya - i think im having a moddy christmas!

Am i correct in the assumption that i can set this up to only allow registered members to connect and use the chat room? Is it alos possible to force them to keep the same loginnames and not allow them the option to change it.

Reason for the above is that the charity group i run this site for has a good few kids in it and naturally the safety of the ikkle ones is the important bit here.

Thanks

Howard

Has the jirc file package been moved? I installed this mod but whenever I go to the chatroom I get a big red X in the java window and the browser says loading java applet failed.

Any ideas?

I think LK quit including the chat files because jpilot updates pretty often. The best bet is to get the latest from jpilot.com smile

Do you know which files I need to store locally on my server and where the code expects them to be?

Thanks!

From the instructions:

"Download:
=========

Go to www.jpilot.com, download the latest jIRC applet,
and copy the whole classes/* folder to noncgi folder,
so that you will have noncgi/classes . Then copy all
your graemlins to the classes/applet_images folder.

Upload:
=======

ubb_chat.cgi, chat.cgi - cgi-bin
vars_chat.cgi, vars_wordlets_chat.cgi - variables
cp2_chat.pl - noncgi/Templates
chat*.gif - noncgi
classes/* from jpilot.com - noncgi/classes (new folder)"

smile
