Hi:
I think it would be useful if Scream kept us more informed (maybe having a section only for licensed users with more info on the development plans, even if he is uncertain of how, when and if they will actually be released). Why I think this would be useful? I am in hte process of installing my copy (not easy for unexperienced folks like myself). I want to make some modifications so I doubt I'll be upgrading every time a new version comes out (probably just every time a major and important for me change happens). I am building a new site, so I have a lot of work ahead besides wwwthreads and I would hate to see, after a lot of work, that a major change (not in the sense of an important new release but maybe some minor change that happens to be exactly what I need...) comes out.
So I think some weekly (or any other time period) notes on development, including things that are going to be included in future versions and even things that Scream would like to add but does not know exactly when or even how would be useful. There could be even a licensed users mailing list. I realize Scream has a lot of work but I dont mean a compormise on his part to actually release what he has in mind (that I know from experience ussually takes longer than planned) but info on what this is... (if other people think the same way, could be something that only I want)
Thanks

Your suggestion shows how new you are around here.[]/w3timages/icons/wink.gif[/] There is nobody in the whole world more communicative than Scream. We are already kept well informed of all projected plans and developments. A mailing list would not in my opinion be a good idea - it would split the focus away from here. Best to keep everything centralized in one place. Don't worry about upgrading - it needn't be a problem if you get yourself a copy of Araxis Merge from http://www.araxis.com. You won't find many boards more heavily customized than mine - http://www.amdragon.com/cgi-bin/wwwthreads/wwwthreads.pl - and I always upgrade the moment a new version comes out. I am certainly more "new" than you (as my title shows, and the fact that I have no idea of how and if that can be changed confirms []/w3timages/icons/blush.gif[/] )
However I have not seen that info (lately) on new releases. Of course it may be just me and my lack of experience but I come here every day.... I'll take your word on the easy upgrades...
BTW your forum is very good. The "click a tag to insert it in your post" is amazing. Is that on the resources section? I have not been able to find it (my newbie status showing again...)
thanks

As Eileen said, thanks Eileen[]/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/], I do try to keep the users informed of what is actually going on with development. But, development is in a somewhat frozen state right now so there hasn't been much to report. This is for a couple of reasons. First, the program is getting complex enough that some nagging bugs need/needed to be taken care of before adding more features, and secondly we have been moving so I haven't had my normal amount of time to work on the program. The move portion is just about done and during this time a good majority of the known bugs have been squashed.
Normally, you'll find all of the info on the information forum about progress and development.
As for what is going to be going on next. Over the past several months there have been a ton of really great hacks created by WWWThreads users so the next major thing to happen will be the integration of some of the user hacks into the main distribution. I'm going to make up a list of all posted hacks, and the post the list and let the users decide what ones they would most like to see in the main distribution. This will be happening as soon as I track down a few more bugs that are still unsolved from the Bug Reports forum.

Scream,
From a personal point of view I'd like to commend you on the method and process you intend to undertake for future developments. There are a couple of things I'd like to see in the next version (sent private messages, ability to change username, less reliance on cookies) but it's heartening to see that Bug Reports are getting priority.
Keep up the great work. When are you listing on the NASDAQ? []/w3timages/icons/wink.gif[/]

Thanks Scream. I just wanted that kind of info. I also agree with almost everybody here that the way you work and support your product is great (just in case it didnt look like that, which never was my intention)
Thanks again Eileen for that one, really cool...

Ok, I'll let everybody know but it's going to take some time... I am just starting... You'll probably see some "please help me" first (I hope not)...
If I can achieve what I want to do I think it will be something cool.
Thanks for all the help so far...

Hey, don't be too proud to ask for help. None of us are - we all do it all the time. It's what makes this board so lively. []/w3timages/icons/wink.gif[/] [] http://www.amdragon.com/images/eileensig.gif[/]
