In my quest to trim down the code whenever possible I came across something that might help. It seems like everybody using the software chooses to use it with the icons, where you can assign an icon to your post. There is an option that will allow admins to just use the standard folder icons and not let the users choose but I really haven't seen any sites using this.

So, here's my question. Should this remain an option? It adds quite a bit of code to postlist.pl and showthreaded because it has to go through some decisions to find out what folder to use and what images to display. It wouldn't make a big difference but it would clean it up some if this was taken out.

Options are great, but if they are unused then they serve no useful purpose except for code bloating[]/w3timages/icons/wink.gif[/]. Does anybody use the standard folder icons? Feedback appreciated.

I would like this to stay.
Because I run a very prefessional board about finance I would not want to use the icons. I only use the standard folder icon and the open folder icons.

Ok, that's really all I needed to hear. As long as somebody is using it then it makes sense to keep it. Thanks for the feedback.

I don't think you should worry about keeping things "too small". Everything should be optional where possible to allow even non-coders to customize things.

WWWThreads really inspired me to learn perl (just spent another £50 (~$80) on more books... W3t code is well coded.. easy to modify..

With your skills.. i'd really like to see you write control panels.. webmail.. things like that... You're one of the few coders who doesn't charge huge prices for sofware that actually LOOKS NICE... (it's not so hard to use nice colours is it?) I know you want to do well on w3t and not loose touch (please don't.. we need you)... but think about it (you could get more people involved with other projects so you wouldn't have to do it all yourself)

Sebastien.
