I agree but do you ever get the impression that we are really a bit stuck in our ways! Simon Wolf, Webmaster, Access All Areas http://www.athree.com

*LOL* []/w3timages/icons/laugh.gif[/] Maybe we are... probably... but I think (as mentioned with different words in the other thread here) that it would be best to concentrate on perfecting the main release first, and when there is some idle time, then development of the alternative would be feasible. By the way, I have to admit I'm one of the Links 2.0 users who don't use templates... BUT I started on templates, then switched because I found it easier to edit script files, than those template files. Might just be a matter of taste, but from a programmers point of few I wonder if it wouldn't be a whole lot easier to do without templates... and for efficiency... just wondering...

I've been thinking of moving my entire site to a database-driven solution using page templates to define various page styles, ie optimised for PCs, PDAs, etc. Templates, however, do seem to be fairly resource intensive and with VServers having the performance problems that they do, me adding to them would severely cripple my site! I don't think we're set in our ways. I think we've already proved we're not scared to leap in and wrestle stuff round to meet our requirements. Getting a handle on mySQL is fun and worth every bit of effort but I just don't get any buzz off templates - a lot of fiddling and chopping up into bits and not a lot to show for it when you've finished...
