Ok, with 5.1, on the devel site we have a new optional main page listing, that lists categories. What I need to know is if this should be the standard main page listing. The reason I ask is this. If it is the standard then I can rename this script to wwwthreads.pl and rename wwwthreads.pl to forumlist.pl or something of that nature. This way nobody has to change their links to the forum. If it is optional then I need to keep it like it is and then those that want to use it like this would have to change their link to point to the categories.pl script.
I hope that make some sense[]/w3timages/icons/laugh.gif[/]. I'd use a poll, but they aren't quite working properly in this version. So, just let me know what you think.
My instinct is to keep wwwthreads.pl the way it is already and make the new Categories the optional feature. Renaming the main entrance at this stage might ripple through and cause problems we haven't even thought of yet.
no i don't think it should be standard at all. I think it would be a great option for people who have a lot of categories. not alot of people would want that feature. my opinioooon.
It should definitely be optional. As a rule in software, don't change the UI mid-program. If this were 6.0 I'd say go for it, but changing that in a minor update is a bad idea.
For me too as an option []/w3timages/icons/tongue.gif[/] []/w3timages/icons/tongue.gif[/] []/w3timages/icons/tongue.gif[/]!
But however, it's a good option. Until now I mad my own menu in another frame. But everytime when I added a new category I had to change this menu. Maby I will stop this with the new version. The problem is that I have no description for a category. If you also add a description of a category in the database that option could solve my problem by 100 %.
But now you show the descreption only in categories.pl but not in wwwthreads.pl. I don't know for others but for me it would be a big advantage to show it also in wwwthreads.pl.
I'm not real sure how to show it in wwwthreads.pl without making it look cluttered. The category name is basically a table header and if I try to stuff the description in there it will look awkward.
