I realize that I don't carry much weight on this board, but I would like to register my opinion. I personally do not like the "Re:(new)" format. It looks a little "bush league" on an otherwise professionally looking website.

I think we need to give the user a little credit for having the intelligence to figure some things out on his/her own.

Right aesthetically it doesnt look right. Would dividing it in two small columns seem right to you?

We can change this to be something different. The main reason I'm not too sure about putting it into it's own colum is then it isn't linked to the Replies any more, and might cause confusion.

Deviding it into 2 columns might work.

How about a toggle button to see all or new that user can choose himself...

Well, let's just try it like this for a while. Normal Replies text, and then just a small red italicized number to show the number of new replies. This keeps the column from being too big, and doesn't require the use of an extra column. I think people should be able to understand what the little red number means.

I have something else to consider. Do we really need to have a "views" column. For all intents and purposes, that information is not very useful. Perhaps the space could be put to better use.

Also, since clicking on a new thread takes you directly to the new post, why do we need to know the number of new posts. It seems to me that just knowing there is a new post is sufficient (this lends itself to the use of the New icon). If this argument is justified, why not revert to an icon notifying the user of a new post(s).

A single space between?: 15[:red](2) being 15[:red] (2)?
The space being in the smaller font, maybe.

Interesting, but I think people kind of like seeing the number of views especially when they are getting no replies and you want to know if it is because no one likes what you posted or you came back too early. []/w3timages/icons/wink.gif[/]
Maybe it could become smaller if a simple eye icon was there instead of the "view" text.

And as of knowing the number of new posts, it kind of tells you of the popularity of the thread -not just of views, and make you want to go see whats going on in there! I like it.

The views column can be turned off in the config file. As for showing the number of replies, speaking just from a personal standpoint I use this quite a bit to hit the most active threads first.

Sounds fair enough for me. I do like MTO's idea of a space between the posts number and the new number.

It would look better if both numbers were the same size - 23 [:red](2)
It's the title "Replies" that takes up all the space - a small icon would be better (and would go nicely with MTO's "eye" for 'Views".)

Personally, I like the "Replies" better than an icon. If more space is needed couldn't it be taken from the Subject column?

First, I want to say that I like having the number of new replies shown--very useful information. Does this put any extra load on the database? Also, I think it would look a little better if the number was not italicized--having a different color is really enough to distinguish it and the italics are a little harder to read.
