Huh, I just hit this site and noticed that they recently added forums. As soon as I got to the forums I could see they were and older version of w3t (perhaps even an older free version?)--so far so good. Then I notice a small blurb at the bottom of the page that reads: "Copyright of all documents and scripts belonging to this site by Thomas Pabst 1996 - 2000." No mention of w3t at all. What gives?! Is this guy claiming to have a copyright on w3t?! Inquiring minds want to know. linkSocrates ForumExperts

As far as I understand from what I have read in some places wwwthreads was open code some years ago. So I am guessing this other GPL forum based on WWWThreads might be from back then as well: Bazaar ONline Conferencing System. But lets let Scream give us the official comments. This is actually a fairly recent version. I think 5.0.x, but it's been modified. He's only required to have a link to WWWThreads somewhere within his site, and if you go to his FAQ, he has the default link there.
I do appreciate the heads up though[]/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/].

Intersting link, Mateo. Kinda like going back in time.
And Scream, I guess you're right about the 'modified' thing, he's modified it to look like a really old version.... []/w3timages/icons/crazy.gif[/]

Scream, What about women.com's forums? ([]/w3timages/icons/tongue.gif[/] Eileen) I'm sure they use W3T, but I am not sure which version... just that it is modified a bunch. Well, more than a bunch. Muhammad Chishti Creative dIRECTOR [:white] http://www.imcuniverse.com

Maybe we should all go over there and post messages asking why wwwthreads.com isn't being given its link? 'Real' women would NEVER go there anyway! []/w3timages/icons/wink.gif[/] [] http://www.amdragon.com/images/eileensig.gif[/]

Ahhh,
But listening (rather reading) to ladies "gossip" is something that can be amusing to us "men" at times []/w3timages/icons/laugh.gif[/]..

"He's only required to have a link to WWWThreads somewhere within his site" Is that part of the license? Or?
I'm a bit confused.... coz, if I'm telling my customers to purchase a license for W3T, then I'd like for them not to have a link... You don't see Micro$oft requring their customers to have a link to www.microsoft.com....? (Free software I could understand, for kudos or sumzin..)
Am I far off here?

PS, I like W3T so far :-)

Yes, it is part of the license agreement to have a link to WWWThreads somewhere within the site. The main difference between a small company like this and Microsoft is Microsoft does enough sales to do a ton of advertising. I do not. The only form of advertising I have is the link from customer sites running the program.

I am using W3T, and I do not like to have any advertisements in my site, but I have 2 pages where I put these... A Credits page (giving credit to companies and Indiviuals who have helped out) and on my Links page...
This should be standard as even writer's give credit to those who have helped them "Publish" their work....
Tell me what you think...

Mike West

I just tried to participate in Mike West's poll but I got this message:
Your vote has been counted, but we were unable to extract the Referer variable from your browser. Please use your back button to return to the poll.
I'm using the php forum and it appears that Mikes poll was placed in the perl forum judging by the $lang{'SUB_VOTE'} that appears on the submit button.
Also, it seems that one can vote from the 'In response to:' panel when replying to a post--doesn't this seem weird?

I agree... I, too, have a credits page on my site, and even though this is not required I put a note about W3T and a link to it there, as for all scripts I use, even when I have hacked them so much that they are hard to recognize. I just think it's fair since they helped me get started and going.

This is the only incompatibility between the PERL and PHP versions. Polls created in the PERL version will not work properly in the PHP version and vice versa.
