We are developing a large scale system and have over 1000 categories. We would like to restrict the viewing of some categories using the 'Cat=' parameter in the URL, but the problem is, there are a couple of instances where we'd like to display 300 categories at one time. Is there an easy way to tell W3T to display a range of categories; something like "Cat=1000-1050". Otherwise, if we list each category individually, our URL will become extrememly long.

If there isn't an easy way to do this, would it be something easy to implement for version 5.4? We could greatly use this.

Thanks for everything.

Just curious, how much of boards do you have?

Right now it's not quite possible to implement this. The current way categories are numbered and then sorted won't allow for a feature like this to behave properly. This issue is something I have on my list to fix but it's going to take a reorganization of things to do it so I've just been waiting for the proper time.

We have over 1,000 categories, with over 23,000 message boards. It will be a very large scale system, so some features have to be tweaked or eliminated all together to get it to work (elimination of the 'jump to' navigation, etc).

I would like to know how that turns out. You could always try to hack that category range thing yourself smile I assmu here that its something like where cat = $cat sql right now that was to changed to where cat between $catbegin and $catend. ofcourse you would need to split $cat variable to 2 before that.
