If I used markup tags in a post and then go to edit that post, the markup tags do not function. In other words, in the original post the tags CAUSE the text to be bold or whatever. After editting the post, though, the tags are visible, but the text is no longer bold. Rather, the edited version now shows the tags, but doesn't actually cause the text to be bold. What am I doing wrong?
Try editing this post by changing this bold to italics. It should duplicate the problem (I hope).

What version are you running that is causing this? This should be fixed in 5.4.3 as I just edited your post without any problems[]/testimages/icons/wink.gif[/].

I've tried and tried, but can't seem to find a resolution. The tags are visible, but don't work.

Is this happening here, or on your boards or both? Can you make a post and edit it so I can see what you are refering to?

I think it is happening only on our boards and not here. Just to be sure I will post this message with some markups and then edit them.
I'll post another reply below to let you know if the problem is encountered here or just on our boards.

I had no problem editing here. It seems that the problem is with our boards. It's funny though, because we are using the same version "PHP Version 5.4.3."
If it helps you... when I go to edit on our boards, the tags have been changed from "[ b ]" to "<b>". The change from "[" to "<" makes them visible instead of invisible.

This is funny, cause for some reason the script on my site (php 5.4.3) will not recognize mark up AT ALL. The only other person who has access to edit the files, swears that he hasent touched them, and I know they were working fine after I last edited em. So now I am off to reinstall :-P

Scream,
I'm using 5.4.3 and this happens to me from time to time; seemingly for no apparent reason. Not only does the Markup Code get changed to HTML, but the HTML is displayed as raw code only, both when posting a new message but more so after editing one. Again, it is sporadic and not something that happens consistently?? At this point, my guess (an ignorant one to be sure!) is that something is happening with the host server which is messing up the files. For example, last night was using FTP and noticed that an extra directory was in my w3timages folder, hehe. I do have my own "Smileys" directory, but its in the root directory and not in the cgi-bin/w3timages directory. [:red]GREMLINS?? []/testimages/icons/laugh.gif[/]
