As a slightly peeved Perl-to-PHP convert not by my own choice, I keep getting this error:

[:blue]Fatal error: Failed opening required '/home/fredsite/public_html/wwwthreads/php/languages//generic.php' in main.inc.php on line 84 when trying to open wwwthreads.php.

Notice the variable between 'laguages' and 'generic.php is missing? I HAVE tried changing main.inc.php to include the 'english' which seems to be missing, but that lead to other snags.

I've checked my config.inc.php and it seems A-OK.

So something's amiss! I'm sure it's my fault -- but any ideas anyone?

'preciate it!

Joel,

There have been a few issues of the PERL cookies playing games with the PHP ones. Usually by closing the browser, clearing out the cookies and restarting it clears it up. Also, you might want to make sure you have all the language files in place as this is where that missing variable comes from, but usually the cookie thing fixes it.

I did try that prior to posting my message, and tried again just to make sure, but nope....

I do get a new error message now though!
[:blue]Parse error: parse error in /home/fredsite/public_html/wwwthreads/php/config.inc.php on line 185

If you look at line 185 on that file, it's pretty innocuous, so I can't figure this one out.

I've got my PERL version set up and ready to go. But with this PHP version, I'm suddenly at a loss. I'm wondering how the quote below, from my hosting company, might affect the way WWWTHREADS should be set up PHP-wise.

[:red]CommuniTech.Net is currently offering PHP version 3.0.9 and 4.0.3pl1. PHP 4.0.3pl1 is currently installed as a CGI binary, while PHP 3.0.9 is compiled into Apache. Below are the paths to PHP version 4.0.3pl1:

/usr/bin/php4

For backwards compatibility, PHP 3.0.6 is also available in:
/usr/bin/php
And PHP 3.0.9 is also available in:
/usr/local/php/php3.0.9

IF you wish to use PHP 3.0.9, you will not need a header on your PHP scripts, since Apache will automatically parse your PHP scripts. However, if you wish to use PHP 4.0.3pl1, then you will need a header, ponting to the PHP interpreter. Below are all possible headers that will work:

#!/usr/bin/php4

For backwards compatibility, PHP 3.0.6 is also available in:
#!/usr/bin/php
And PHP 3.0.9 is also available in:
#!/usr/local/php/php3.0.9

In the near future, we plan to drop support for PHP 3.x, and compile PHP 4.x into Apache.

Hmm, that's an interesting one. It looks like the #!/usr/bin/php4 line is going to need to be added at the top of the php scripts. However, I'm sure there is an easier way around this than editing each script to add that line. I'll look on some of the newsgroups or maybe some other PHP genius has some tips on how to accomplish this.

Yep you have to add #!/usr/bin/php4 to the top of each file except main.inc.php, config.inc.php, and the language files.
Then create a .htaccess file and add this line to it.

AddType application/x-httpd-cgi .php

I'll give that a try.

I just got some double chocolate ice cream, luckily.

I'm afraid none of that worked. Don't really know what I'm going to do now.
