I just wanted to say that I am actually very happy with the new terms and pricing deals. As a potential customer I'm not sure that this would be the case since the costs for non-profit sites are pretty steep.
Just to clarify things for both myself and others I think that I am correct in saying the following:
1. Current owners of WWWThreads/UBBThreads own the software for life and can have as many instances running under the domain that they registered the software for. We are bound by the original licensing terms and conditions.
2. Current owners of WWWThreads can but a year's access to the upgrades area for $31.25. This 'pass' can be bought at any time for this price and does not have to be a continuous renewal of the current or future access 'pass'. Time remaining on you 'pass' bought from Rick is honoured so you don't need to think about buying a new one until that has expired. I'm using the term 'pass' because it is not a license for the software -- we already own that for life -- it is rather the right to download upgrades. BTW, Infopop might want to think about their official wording to help avoid this confusion.
3. You can buy a support plan if you choose to or you can pay a per incident fee. This plan is only really designed for people who are having major problems and is a way for Infopop to offset the cost of walking someone through their problems.
4. We can still use the support forums (Infopop's official ones and the hacks ones) for free.
If the above is right then I'm happy! I think that Infopop have treated us existing owners fairly and the news is much better than it could have been. I have still to experience their moderators but, being the mild-mannered old soul that I am I am sure that all will be well! []/testimages/icons/wink.gif[/]

Hopefully we will get some current members to moderate some of the forums. MattyJ has offered to moderate a forum or 2 and I've been asked to see who else would make good moderators, but we really need to see who is going to stick around and wants to take on the responsibility. This would definitely help though to get some familiar faces to fill some of the moderator positions.

Clarification on point 2 - the price for another year of updates is $125.
Existing license holders have a lifetime 75% discount off of the going price for the "old" licenses.
Therefore, at this time, you would pay $31.25, not $125.

Real Quick and Easy Question:
I currently run/own the Perl 5.4.4 version... say in 3 years you all come out with a decent PHP version that has alot more bells and whistles then my Perl version which I will be hacking apart... Will in 3 years I still get the 75% discount? Yes/No

Well, just for the headcount - I won't have time to moderate but I'll definitely be sticking around. []/testimages/icons/smile.gif[/]

As long as you have an old license, you can get another year of upgrades for that license, with the discount. 1, 2, 3, 10 years from now.

From Simon Wolf Point 2 In reply to:

And Rick's answer In reply to:
Yep, all 4 of your points are correct.
So, what I read and understand is if one is a life time user from old days. He/She will still be honered to have a "life-time Pass" to the download area without paying any upgrade fee, wherever it's $125 or $31.25. Am I correct?
