I never had this problem before so never figured out how to do it. How do I add more smileys? Th editors at DMOZ like to use alot of smileys when they post and I have all the custom made smileys we use in our private editor forum. We recently, today infact, opened a public forum so site submitters can get help or ask questions about the workings of the Open Directory. I have almost a meg of custom smilies that I would like to add, but, I can't figure out how to add them. Do I upload them to the icon folder? If I upload them which file do I edit to add the replacements? On the private DMOZ forum we use replacements vars that all the editors are familiar with. I would like to use them.
On a different topic. I'm playing arround with mod_rewrite to rewrite forum urls to search engine friendly urls. Something along the lines of what Gforum does. The software I use now has a hack you can add for it, but, it is a little buggy. I am refining it so that it will work correctly and when I'm finished I'll port it over the UBBThreads. Would anyone be interested in this sort of hack?
If you are looking for markup smileys then you just need to add them into the icons directory. Then you need to edit ubbt.inc.php. The do_markup and undo_markup functions is where the smileys are converted so you just need to add the new regular expressions in there. Just look for the following in both functions

The hack you are working on sounds great. There are still only a couple of search engines that can search dynamic pages so this would probably come in very handy.
I'm moving right along with the smilies. Found an easier way instead of using regex and preg_replace.
I started on the SE rewrite mod. I have the rewite rules finished and just have to make the changes in the script and test them out.
One question. I'm doing this with v5.1. Did you introduce templates in v6?
If you did I'm going to wait until I have v6 before I finish this. It will be much easier to make the changes in the templates and with v6 on the horizon this won't work on the new version. Since it's right arround the corner I think I'll wait.
look at my site, i have tons of smileys and the are stored in folders, just add them by klicking on them. I´ll post the script when i change it so that it can generaly be used.

I translated the whole lot including the java script so I could keep track. I got the list mark up happening just trying to work on the poll markup. Hard when you dont know java and its trial and error.
the scipt gives the table a width of 400 I have set mine to 100% so it can fit the images in. This is in addpost, editpost, newpost and newreply. I have updated the file on the server, so these changes are included. if you downloded it already you need to alter those four files. It occurs at
