I'm having problems with my wwwthreads installation recently that causes mysql errors to appear on pages intermittently. I have posted a copy of what these errors look like at: http://www.customtacos.com/error.gif

I recently posted a message on the UBBT support forum and someone suggested that I increase the max_connections variable in the my.cnf file. I have increased that variable to 200 (from 100)and it hasn't helped. For what it's worth, I only have between 10-20 concurrent UBBT users online most of the time, and I can even invoke the error message if I'm the only one on: simply go to the main page and hit reload a few times.

If you'd like to see this error, go to my forum and hit refresh a few times. It may take a few times, but it will eventually happen.

Help...my users are starting to lose faith in my site..

I got a different error

You might consider upgrading to 5.5.1, as it fixed a few bugs (not sure if yours was one it fixed, but it it possible). For the changes in 5.5.1, click here.

Unless your server is overloaded with other busy sites, it is unliklely that 10 concurrent users would break even a poorly configured server, can you post your mysql stats here? You also should try the table repair/optimization utility in threads or phpmyadmin.

I hope that helped, post your stats in here and Dave should be along soon to check them out as well

I'm fairly familiar with mysql, but can you explain how to get the mysql stats that you want? Do you mean to do to a mysqladmin variables command?

I'm curious about that too. I hope I'm not the "Dave" that Allen referred to.

It appears as though my problems are actually related to PHP. I found out that my host is still running PHP version 4.0.6!!!

So, mental note for you UBBT troubleshooters out there: it appears as though UBBT 5.5 and PHP 4.0.6 are not very compatible with each other.

4.06 is a relatively new version I remember them coming out with it this past fall... that really shouldn't be your problem.

Are you using cookies or sessions? If cookies, are they domain-wide or forum-specific?

You can also post the rest of your MySQL settings in your my.ini file.

They really should upgrade their php tho, besides performance inprovements, they also patche some pretty serious security holes in 4.06 and prior versions.

Yes, but check this out: I ran my forum on another host that was running PHP 4.1.2 and NEVER saw the problem in 4 months. Likewise, I put a copy of my PHP pages on the server that mysql is currently running on (MacOS X and version 4.1.2 of PHP) and haven't seen the error on that box, either.
