Hi,

What is the problem with disabling the referer check?

It says 'Only disable this if you have many users that are unable to post due to firewall/proxy servers manipulating their referer variable.'

I am now finding that whenever I visit a threads site, I cannot vote, post or do many things as this has been enabled.

What concerns me is that, many occasional visitors will be lost, as the error message given is rather vague, and is not particularly helpful. I have changed mine to also say 'You might like to check your firewall settings for your PC.'

Any thoughts / comments?

Ian.

Just a tip....
But I set up a FAQ / Site Help forum, where I posted detailed instructions on what to change if you are getting that error, detailed instructions on how to delete cookies for each type of browser etc....
Then I customized all the error messages in the language files..... and gave links to the specific instructions. For example the blurb about cookies links to the directions on how to delete cookies etc....

It's helped a ton with the amount of tech support email I get.

Is there any info available on this to help make a decision?
What does the referer check do for me ?
What difference does it make if I disable it ?

Thanks,
Greg
