The downside with the way subjects/replies are handled in UBB.t is that the default view is flat, and people tend not to change the subject, so you wind up with the same text in bold repeated through-out the topic.

How do y'all feel about it...?

View Preference
i like the flat view
i like the threaded view
i use both frequently

What about an option that would allow the board admin to select a .classic style view: flat view with a single subject and a single reply link...?

View Option
i like the way it is handled in .threads, and don't care about an option
i would like the option of having .classic style only

I'm undecided about this.

The threaded structure has the advantage that if a thread gets off the original topic, you can move the off-topic branch into its own thread.

A basic problem is that some people will use the flat view and automatically reply to the last post, even though the reply is really directed to another post in the thread. This messes up the email reply-notification scheme, and also messes up the move-thread feature described above.

In debating this, it's important to keep in mind the difference between the flat and threaded views, and the underlying threaded structure. Even if you forced everyone to use the flat view, that wouldn't change the fact the that underlying structure is still threaded, unless you also implement a change such as you mentioned, where there's only one reply link.

Agree with most of that.

you can move the off-topic branch into its own thread.

Is that right? Didn't know about that feature.

Is there somewhere that documents *all* of the .threads features, not just the main 20 or so?

Yes, it's a nice feature.

Unfortunately, they're not really into documentation around here. The docs that are available are incomplete and innaccurate. I had to install UBB.threads, play around with it and examine the code to figure a lot of stuff out.

But if you have specific questions about features, you'll probably get answers. If you want accurate answers about UBB.threads, I'd recommend asking here, not on the Infopop community forums.

When I try to vote I get:

The requested URL /threads/php/viewpoll.php&Number=50080&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&what=showflat.php was not found on this server.

Oh Allen?
