there are instances occuring where it says there are X number of new messages/replies, but there's really more, or less than that.
Noticed it on these forums, after the numbers were added back.

I've noticed a similar problem where the light is on, but no one is home! O.k., o.k., couldn't resist! Seriously, the lightbulb will be on indicating there are new posts in the forum, yet when you view the forum contents, no threads are marked as new. This occurs even when there are new threads. It's really sporadic. I finally went through and performed the database optimization which seems to have helped, but not solved, the problem.

Wraith, I'm guessing since you said you optimized that you are refering to your forums. Are you running 6.0 or 6.0.1?

6.0.1 - I thought that the recent upgrade would resolve the problem, but the new post tracking continues to be really problematic. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it works, it's great! When it doesn't, it's a royal pain in my butt.

I have yet to experience a problem with thread tracking or lightbulb problems

I have to wonder if this is't being caused by the "Mark All Read" hack. Although this hack basicly wipes the slate clean on what was read so I can't see how it could cause this. The "Mark One or All" hack sets cookies to specific values and I figured this one would be the problem child.

Incidentally, I've never used the Mark All Read button on these forums.

My lightbulb behavior has been perfect here and in my own forum (since 6.0.1). It was a little quirky under 6.0. But it all seems to be fixed now.

I have the "Mark All Read" hack installed, but not the "Mark All or One Read" hack installed.

Hmmm, after installing 6.01 over 6.0 I everything looked fine for a while and I thougt it's fixed now. But today I saw it's not.
The main page seems to show the new posts and the lightbulbs correctly. But after going into one board (postlist.php), no new messages at all are displayed. After clicking on one thread that defenitely has got new posts, it is displayed correcly again (showflat.php). So another bug in postlist?
I did not use the links of "last post", that bypass the tracking in postlist .php, so there must be a bug somewhere else...
btw: at the moment it happens only for one specific board at my site (first cat, first board). But here at threadsdev I can see this happening at several boards.
