when you enable the zlib compression, you are being warned that "pages will be smaller but it may cause excess server overhead on busy sites:"

Can anyone tell me how to tell whether a site is busy or not?
Is it 100 visitors at a time accessing your website? or 50 will be consider as a busy site?

zlib is a very good thing to be enabled since it increases the speed very well, but I am afraid the web hosting company that I shared with will complain if it causes excess server overhead.

Yes, zlib compression is nice

Server load is all relative - it depends just as much if not more on server hardware/software setup, number of other sites on the server and how busy they are, what else is going on on the server, etc. All you really can do is turn it on and see if the server slows down. You can talk to your hosts as well and ask them to keep an eye on the load your site is causing. Usually the savings in bandwidth outweigh the amount of extra server load it creates.
