I am noticing now that we have a huge problem with replies to posts from unregistered users.

First of all, registered users are unable to use QuickReply to these posts. If a registered user attempts to QuickReply to a post from an unregistered user, they receive the following error message:

The username you are trying to post under has already registered and is being used by someone else.

Also, whenever an unregistered user replies to a post, that unregistered user's name is made into a hyperlink. Since there is obviously no user profile for this person, clicking on that link results in the following error message:

This user is no longer in our database.

I think these are both symptoms of the same problem. Any idea how I might remedy this?

The quick reply hack shouldn't appear for unregistered users.... because it doesn't work for them.

The problem of a normal user trying to reply to an anonymous post was noted... and I believe gardener posted an updated fix to this. Check the latest version of it in the Finished Mods forum.

The Anonymous users becoming a hyperlink (in threaded and postlist views) is a threads bug.. and I believe Burns posted a fix for that here this weekend.

I'm still experiencing this problem of registered users not being able to reply to an unregistered user's post. I have tried everything. I have tried going back to the original files and implementing v1.8 of the QuickReply, but the problem still exists. I'm using pretty standard stuff-6.0.3 and IE 6.0. Surely I can't be alone in having this problem.

The fix for this is really very basic if I remember correctly. There is a row in the reply form in the file templates/default/showflat.tmpl that must look like this:

<input type="hidden" name="Reged" value="y" />

The old and incorrect has a variable instead of the "y" in the value field. Check if this is correct.

The problem was actually in the showthreaded.tmpl file, but you nailed it. You might want to check the final verion of your code on the Finished Mods board, as I'm pretty sure I followed this to the letter. I experienced the problem after two installs, so either I'm a total idiot (which might be the case) or the code has the variable in it still.

But thanks. I appreciate your help on this. This was was last bug we needed to work out before our launch, so our myriad users thank you for coming through for us.
