Ok, last week I remembered I had my old server laying around (pII 350, half a gig of ram.. etc) and for the past month I have been running my cable modem into a hub, and to 3 computers at my new apartment. First of all, I don't know how it is even working through a hub, but that's besides the point.
Anyway, so I wanted to set up my server as just a basic linux box, acting as a firewall, router, and maybe even have an FTP server for when I'm at work and need to transfer files easily.
So, I installed Mandrake 8.2, and have been playing around with it just to become more familiar with linux in general. Have it configured correctly as far as I'm aware of, have two NICs installed, etc.
I looked up some documentation regarding doing this, but nothing all that easy to understand. Been trying to figure out
ipchains but have had little success. So, just wondering if anyone else has done this and could offer some help?
I'm just too lazy to spend 30 dollars to buy a real router
