I recently installed the 6.0.3 threads. it took me 3 attempts to get it right.

if I do a complete reinstall will I be able to use the same mySQL DB? will it link directly to the DB with the current information in it?

I have done minimal modifications.

I figure I could either just not fix something that werk's just dandy (6.0.3UBBT) But that is just not my nature, M U S T - T W E A K.

Eventually I will need to upgrade, may as well get some experince doing it today (home with a sinus infection)

Anywhoo, I am fairly nervous about wrecking a perfectly good board.

the change file method

[flamebait]should I just carefully follow the instuctions provided....[/flamebait]

What would be simplest for a nervous novice?

(btw I have the entire currently backed-up including the DB)

Also answered at Infopop Community:

It should be very simple to upgrade.

From 6.0.3 to 6.1.1 you'll need to replace every script, as it was a major upgrade.

You can use the same database. What you do is copy over all the files.... except:
config.inc.php
main.inc.php
theme.inc.php
/includes directory
/filters directory
/stylesheets directory

Then you will need to run the altertable script to 6.1 to update your database. Do a database backup first!

One you do that you should be all set. Then I would recommend adding your modifications back in. If it's a minor upgrade you can often use "beyond compare" to transfer your mods... but a major version you are liable to put something wrong back in.... so a fresh start is sometimes a good idea.

Hope that helps!

I got your mail....

I am going to attempt the 'wreckage' approach tomorrow I think.

*stewart smally approach* "you can do it"

LOL

Good Luck. Let us know if you get stuck or have any trouble.

Should be simple.
