Looking to upgrade from 5.4.x and I recently downloaded/installed 6.1.1. Now in 5.4 I did a lot of special coding to automatically create accounts when a user is added to the .htpasswd file and also to automatically log a user in when they authenticated past an .htaccess folder. This is for a subscription based site (not porn) using netbilling. When a user gains access to the members area their forum account is automatically created and they are logged in automatically on the members front page. (NOTE to scream: This may be a nice legit hack/addon used for integrating into membership based sites that want automatic forum integration. Business version of UBB Threads anyone? ...I work cheap)
Anyway, I'm having a hell of a time upgradeing my hacks since it looks like the login and authentication system are different and $Uid is used all over the place. I haven't figured out if this is has to do with the new U_LoginName field in the w3t_Users table or not (What does the w3t stand for btw?
just kidding)
I've setup the automatic account creation scripts and everything is working except the auto login part. I create a separate main.inc file and alter the start_page and authentication functions but this is day 2 and I still haven't got it to work correctly.
Anyway, I'm not really asking for help since I'm sure there are only a couple of people here experienced enough to know what I'm talking about and those that do are surely busy. I'll figure it out in the end. I just to see if there is any interest out there in this type of hack/addon
This hack or addon is specific for sites that use a pay subscription system users and if you're asking yourself, "why would someone pay to use a message board?" the answer is, they wouldn't. A site needs to have more content than just the message board to generate subscribers. The forum is just the community communications piece for a site that has other modules or content.
