Hi

How can I remove the forum header when users post?

I just want them to see the header when they arrive at the forum.

I just want to have text displayed in the header..my graphics are fairly large..they like seeing it..but only once within the Main Index/Home page of the forum

ie "You are posting in the Scratching Post Forum"

This possible?

I would assume I have to edit a post.php file..is there a separate one for each forum?

Thanks in advance

Lerosia

In the admin area you can change headers for specific forums, it's not exactly what you want, but if you change the header for all forums it might be close enough.

Hey Lerosai!

I've seen your site, and yes, your header is rather large.

I would use the one you want as the "generic header" then set up a forum specific header (that is smaller and doesn't have all that info) for each forum....

Then the users won't need to scroll up and down so much.

Talk to you later,
Josh

Hi Gardener

Thanks for the reply..

Yes I know I can change within Admin area..I want the Forum header to display when the user goes to each forum(there are about 10 forums)..its just when they click on Post within that forum..

Isnt that the newpost.php file?

Is there a newpost.php file for every forum that I could mod somehow?

Hey Josh

Yes I the main header is too large(i am fixing that)..and I do have smaller headers for each forum

I guess theres no way to edit the newpost.php to not display the header?

Ohhhhhh... I see.....

Hmmmmm....

Some deeper hacking.

The files in question are addpost.php and newreply.php

But the header is sent as part of a global "send header" function.

I did do soemthing similar where I wanted certain pages not to have the nav bar menu.....

This is the thread where we figured it out. Basically defined an on/off switch variable.

I guess you could do a similar thing.... if it's 0 then it's the normal header... if it's 1 then it's the other header.

In my mind... the theory works.
Not 100% sure though.
It would take some playing.

Thanks Josh.

I will take a look at that.

I think it might be easier to reduce the graphics
I am going to see about tightening them up

If its not one thing its another with this board(mine)

I have just noticed this now ..I didnt have a need to edit a post after I updated my board

But when I go to edit post, the post comes up, I edit it, uncheck Mark as Edited, then click Change this post and it automatically takes me to main page that says GO HERE
http://cyabc.infopop.cc/ubbthreads/

It happens when I dont uncheck the mark as edited box..and it also happens when I try to make a post sticky

So is this an editpost.php issue?

Thanks

Lerosia

It could be editpost.php

Most likely it's a template... try fresh copies of these until you find the problem:

editpost_nopoll.tmpl
editpost_withpoll.tmpl
editpost_manage.tmpl
editpost_manage_(bunch of things here).tmpl

All in all there are 9 templates for editpost.

Hope that helps.

You mean just replace with with new copies?

(I dont think I made any mods to them)

I also just added your delete post button mod..it worked but having the same problem
Takes me right back to the forum beginning

Now that I rethink that.... you are having trouble with so many different things, it's probably not the templates.... probably editpost.php or modifypost.php.

Both those scripts are used when editing a post.

Try starting with fresh / clean (unhacked) copies... then add hacks back in, then you can tell what went wrong.

Hi Josh

Hate to brow beat you on this one..but which files to i re-up?

It seems that the only problem I can find is with the editing of posts
It just wont allow it

when you click on edit post..it takes you to the editpost.php file...then when you try to edit/delete/make sticky..what does that call to?

Thats where I think I see the problem

Am I on the right track?

modifypost.php

Start re-uploading that one...

then try editpost.php as well....

See if either of those fix your problems.

Wow..you arent going to believe it..in fact I dont really know how I did it

I did a beyond compare on the files you suggested and it seems editpost_nopoll and editpostpoll were outa whack

I have done no editing whatsoever on those two files..so I re-upped clean versions and voila....I can now edit my posts

So thanks Josh

I think when I can truly understand what the code means is when I will be able to do this for myself

But now that it seems fixed..what is it exactly in the nopoll and poll files that is being called to?

Can you not edit posts that have polls in them? Is that why?

They were changed from 6.1 to 6.1.1

They are the templates that control what you see.

editpost.php starts the action, then calles to modifypost.php to complete it. But depending on what you are doing, who you are (admin etc...) and what is in the post (poll etc..) it calls a specific template.

For example, you can't edit the text with a poll. Only close, sticky, delete, move etc...
So the template is different, without the text edit box.

But the form on those templates (the buttons) send back variables to modifypost.php which tell it what you are trying to do.

There was a bug (if I remember) in 6.1 that was fixed for 6.1.1.

You must have had some old files.
