Yes .php should be transfered as ASCII just as .htm or .txt or other text like files. If your using WSFTP pro there should be an option somewhere to add .php to the list of extentions that are transfered as ASCII.

Thanks!
So far no issues with the transfer, but I thought so. I'm using a new program Secure FX since I don't allow any non-secure FTP into the box. I like the program, and it is very flexible. I found the definitions to reclass type of transfer.
VanDyke.com is the maker if you are interested.
I think I may have 'taught' it to do the transfer as binary... but I'm not sure.
Anyways... thanks for the quick response!

Is your server Windows or Linux? The UBB.threads files are distributed in Unix text format, so if your server is Linux, you can transfer them in binary. (Unless you've done something to explicitly convert them to Windows text format.)

Yes, I'm Linux. Maybe that ius why the Binary transfer worked I did change for future transfers to be on the safe side.

My server requires SSH, and my SSH client used to only support binary transfer, so I got into the habit of transferring everything in binary.

PHP files can be transfered in binary just fine, as can almost any other text file. The reason perl files need ascii is because the line feed after the shebang needs to be in teh format perl expects it. If you were running PHP as a cgi binary instead of an apache module you would find the same thing to be true. If you upload a perl script in binary and from the command line type perl filename.pl you'll probably find that it works because you tols it to use perl to execute the file. As long as perl is in your path it should work.
Picture perfect penmanship here.
