Hi guys

We've made several dozen tweaks and hacks to UBBT 6.1. There's at least one feature in 6.2 we absolutely need, but it'd be too much work (our programmers are all pro bono volunteers, my site's a public service) to update all our tweaks to 6.2.

So....I'm hoping to do the converse, and add the needed 6.2 stuff to 6.1, perverse though it sounds. Here are the features of interest:

_________

1. after moving a thread, leave a "pointer" at the old location.

2. log changes made in the admin section (plus script for admins to view these logs).

3. Add a thread to favorites when posting or replying.
_________

#1 is absolutely essential, #2 and 3 we'd like but can live without.

Would anyone be kind enough to offer tips, suggestions, or cautions re: this retrofit which I can pass on to our programmers (who are mumbling bitterly at this point)?

Many thanks,

JIM

6.2 has many feature changes and the easiest thing to do if you want to have those features is upgrade. I know you don't want to hear that.

Would be alot easier if you installed a test site on your server and installed 6.2. Then at your convenience just install all the mods you still want provided they are available for 6.2. When everything is done and looking good replace your production site with the files from the test site ( remember you do not overwrite or replace the following files ever when upgrading a site. theme.inc.php config.inc.php and main.inc.php )

This way your production site is up and you tweak things in the beta site.

If you've kept track of the mods that you've made then why not use a program like Beyond Compare to copy and paste your mods over to 6.2?

Gotta love beyond compare and a test site. Iron out the bugs and then put it into production.

guys, thanks, we're well aware of beyond compare, we know how to do an upgrade, our programmers are really smart. But I have extremely limited time from them, and even using beyond compare, redoing 77 tweaks into 6.2 is a major undertaking. Not gonna happen.

And, to repeat, there's only one single feature I urgently need from 6.2: "after moving a thread, leave a "pointer" at the old location".

So....can anyone please provide tips/advice for retrofitting 6.1 with that feature? If I can also throw in the other two I mentioned, so much the better.

many thanks,

JIM

As far as I know there isn't anyone that's created this modification for 6.1 since it's in 6.2 so I would think the best thing to do would be to compare the related files between the two versions and add in the code for this mod.

You may also want to check out the developer for hire forum here to see if anyone's interested in some extra work.

I think we are trying to tell you it is infeasible to think that someone could help you. If I could I would help you. Most people here have upgraded Threads to 6.2 and no longer own 6.1

I do not know of many people doing backwards coding. You meantion the time involved to hack 6.2. I meantioned a test forum as the solution. This would provide you all the time in the world to add hack up 6.2 to your liking before releasing it to the public. Stubs or thread pointers are a standard feature of 6.2.

Just like Dave meantioned you could check out the developers forum. I am sure there is someone who could do some backwards coding for a price.

Between Beyond Compare, and the fact that I document the hacks in my script, I can typically do an upgrade in a matter of minutes. Beyond Compare 0w3nz m3!

You can use my mod AdminLogger to get loggin functions to 6.1, it is made for 6.0.1, but it should work with 6.1 as well I think.
