can anyone recommend chat solutions which are easy to integrate with our existing UBBT user database?
maybe any live examples?
I heard digichat is supposed to be the best?!?

actualy, i have hired a programmer to make a chat especialy for ubbt 6,2

it´s still running in development beta, but it is looking goood ;O)

the most importent for me that i asked for is that it uses ubbt username and password for login, it uses ubbt profiles, it uses U_extra5 field to chat velcome and so on...

As soon as it is done i will make an topic on ubbdev.com about it. it Wont be free off charge, but it vill be an real professional text chat.

I really like the raidersoft chat I have integrated, but it does lack full protection at the moment. Users have to be logged in to get to the chat box screen and that seems to be enough protection. The popup box works great for announcing if somebody is in chat and the whos in chat mod also really adds value to the chat.

I think they offer higher versions than what I am running which will integrate even more. I can protect the usernames but it doesn't transfer them automatically via the database.

Main reason I like the raidersoft is it doesn't run on my server and its is very customizable for sounds and images. Great third party software..

I use the jpilot chat on my own IRC server. I don't need any chat names stored in the database..... I require them to be logged in for the chatpage, then the Username is automatically filled in, so their forum username is their chat username.
Only admins and mods need to ident themselves to gain access to the admin stuff.

I integrated RealChat (Enterprise edition) into UBBT rather easily. As with Josh, a member must be logged in so I just pass the Username to the chat server.

It's main drawback is it's cost

nikos integrated my chat www.chatblazer.com with threads for me just last week. click here and then click chat. This chat cost me 1500 but they have much cheaper solutions. He also integrated another chat program into his site. You might ask him to hook you up...

Yes I integrated DigiChat on my site. The problem with DigiChat is that their sales techniques are really rubbish. I was quoted 750 usd for the 100 user version and after a bit of crying I got it for 450. Their moderator module costs 1500 and one time this salesman was prepared to sell it to me for 400 usd. Outrageous...

If you opt for Raidersoft, JPilot or DigiChat you will find the modifications in this forum (I think it is in the Forum Design Integration board).

Wow! I guess the price of RealChat isn't that bad then. The Enterprise edition goes for $695 and that includes the Moderator plugin and unlimited users and rooms.

ok, I kept searching and finally decided, most JAVA solutions can't be modified too easily, e.g. reaching a users profile by clicking on the username is crucial.
So I switched to IRC, combined with a javascript/HTML frontend.

One possible interface between IRC and the frontend is IRCG, which converts and delivers XML messages. (schumann.cx/ircg/)

Does anybody know somebody who has integrated IRCG into an existing UBBT community?
Does anybody know similar solutions involving IRC?

I know Josh uses IRC, but I don't like the java frontend cause it can't be modified as I wish.

I integrated the IRCG in an intranet solution. It was the 3.x version, bundled in a commercial package called TitanChat (http://www.titanchat.de). I think there is no english version of the homepage available.

It's very customizable and you can integrate nearly everything you can think of.

just to let you know, we went for cgi:irc.
just like IRCG, it's the missing link between an irc server and a javascript frontend.
but ircg seems pretty much dead, you can't reach the author, can't even buy it anymore - cgi:irc is open source.

all you need is an ircd running, a bot, and minor modifications. chi:irc requires perl.

we tweaked it, so a doubleclick on a user name opens a window and so on, next thing would be putting chatters correctly on the who's online screen, but that can't be difficult either.

I also installed jIRC v2.7.2 for my UBBT v6.4, but how did you intergrate it into your UBBT?
