I have several ways for folks to add avatars but when they upload there own they get distorted. So a mod to check proportions on the images would be nice. Anybody got this one working?

This is one of the most pesky things about ubbt.

What if the mod checked for dimension of image to see which was larger? then used that one first as a guideline to post image. Would that keep them in proportion. Grasping at straws here.

I have the same problem at my site. For now I open their images in PSP, crop out the largest square I can, and resize them to 100x100 (what I use at my site). As a fringe benefit, everything being at 100x100 makes things look more uniform.

It's a known bug, reported months ago.

Part of the problem is that when a user edits his profile, the avatar dimensions get reset to theme defaults. I fixed that by removing the code that updates a user's avatar when he edits his profile.

This solution works for me because I don't allow users to upload their own avatars. They have to send them to me, and I install them. I have a hack which adds an admin function for uploading (or deleting) a user's avatar. I could post that if there's sufficient interest.

Realize its a bug, was hoping somebody could write a fix. doesn't seem like that much code revolves around the images. Dave thanks for the offer but I have enough on my plate with out doing everybodies avatar. Got the users all squared away on doing it themselves, but those few that don't get it.

I like to have the avatars a little larger so folks can show off their fish pictures or what ever they take photos of. Some are quite fun to see what they can come up with.

Not sure what we need to have done to work around this to keep porportions of images.
I tried deleting the height requirement but that just allowed stretching in the other direction. and vise versa..

This is suppose to be fixed in 6.3 but that is still quite a ways out.
I am not rich but would gladly pay somebody to write a fix. How much would something like this cost?
