Hi gang,
Anyone thought about a way to generate a special PM to guests of your site coaxing them to join? We have a vast amount of content that is not visible to guests, and our membership is free. I'd like to send a PM each time a guest logs on (with the ability to turn them off at the guest's discretion) saying, "Hey, come join us and you will get access to blah, blah, blah..."
Seems pretty easy to do, but didn't know if there was a built-in way, or a mod already in place.
Any input greatly appreciated, as always!
Cheers,
Chris

Guests aren't logged in, so you won't be able to send them anything. You could make a kind of faked pm screen that presents a message to them. You could even use the pm-icon as an link, but you aren't able to send them a PM in a traditional way.

On my forums, I have a different nav bar, and a box above that to encourage guests to sign up - it also doubles as a link for those members who are not logged in, and are having problems. (not that they read help screens - they prefer to email ) For logged in members the nav bar chamges to a regular one - no that is not true - it also varies depending upon which groups they belong to

That's not a bad idea, Ian. Thanks!

You could make the flasher work for users who aren't logged in, then create a page "simulating" the look of a PM which contains your message. Maybe use a cookie to turn off the flashing after they view that page. Might actually be a cool way to encourage registrations... But that would be a way to pull it off.
