just did the facelift on my test board, but the post icon doesn't show up next to the side of its name, like it does on this board...did I goof somehow, or is this an extra mod?

Ah...thanks
So this comment ("Yes the Facelift comes with the graemlins popup panel and shows only a handful of those at a time.")in another post - #85828 - from dimopoulos wasn't quite right?
Thanks again - Tony

The graemlin popup panel is a different mod the one that adds "more graemlins" and opens your whole graemlin library in a new window to use in posts.
I don't know if it comes with the facelift - I don't know how it would - I think the facelift is just templates and the graemlin popup panel is a script and requires modifications to use.

The mod to display the icons next to the pull down also requires you to modify addpost.php - it's more than template modification. So if you're missing the icon on the next pages - you need to apply that change to. Double check that you did all the steps in the icon preview mod - particularly the changes to the top of addpost.php. The link to show post icons is a standard part of Threads. It sounds like you haven't installed that modification all the way. It will only display icons in the /icons directory. I think Dal lists that mod as a "requirement" of using the facelift - just like he did the YASM mod.

Thanks again - so let me see if I have this clear, and then I have another related question about something that is now wrong with my test board. I hadn't noticed on the post screen that the "post icon" is a link that opens a screen showing the icons that are available. So I guess that does come with the "facelift". And I gather from what you said that it is an additional mod (for which you gave me the link) to have the icon displayed just to the right of its name after it is selected. So am interpreting which is which correctly? But here's my new problem. I used the remove post icon screen under administration to remove many of the nonsmiley faces from availablility. The trouble is that they still appear on the drop-down menu!!! If I select one that isn't available, it is accepted, and if I preview the post, an ASTERISK appears in place of the face. If I accept the post, it then appears in the topic list with a PERIOD in place of the face, and if I click on that post, the topic on the showpost screen just has the topic title and no icon (and no period or asterisk in its place). Wouldn't you expect the removed post icons to not appear in the dropdown menu at all? On another point, if I click "post icon" to bring up the post icon screen, ALL the names are listed, but only the ones that I haven't removed have the icons next to the names on the screen. It will be confusing to those posting to have a dropdown list of icons, many of which are not available, so I kind of doubt this was the intention. What is your understanding of this? Thanks - Tony Edit: just noticed that we crossed postings here, as a result of my deciding to this post earlier...sorry. I'll have a look at what you just said, Josh, and then see where I end up. Thanks

The existing pull down and link to list of post icons is an alternate template available with threads. It lists just the stock icons - and does not update if you add or remove icons. (That's how my icon pull down menu mod came about - as it's better than what is included in threads). Download and use my mod for post icons if you want the pull down list to be accurate if you add or remove icons. Not sure which one Dal's mod comes with. Or use the standard ubbt_iconselect.tmpl file included with threads - which will display all the icons accurately on the screen and give radio buttons to make your selection. The pull down menu that comes with threads is in the /templates/alternate directory and is pretty worthless if you ask me (as it doesn't update for added or removed icons). So what you describe - you should be using mine if you want a pull down - or use the standard template that comes with threads for icon selection.

thanks, Josh..I will install your mod tonight...I agree that having a pull down that doesn't give you the real list doesn't work too well. Thanks for your help on all these things! (I still have a couple of questions on other things that I'll post separately tonight or tomorrow.) Tony
PS I think that DLT lists the only prereq for the facelift as YASM...that's why I was surprised, but correct me if I'm wrong!

I'm not sure if Dal attempted to include my mod in his templates ---- If so, Dal... the addpost.php instructions need to be added. Thanks.

OK, Josh - followed the instructions as they are given currently in your mod link, and everything now seems to work! (Thanks) am a bit puzzled as to what order things were supposed to be done in, i.e., facelift vs your mod (in both cases for 6.3) but I guess not to worry (or, as they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it) - guess when I install everything on our real board, I'll upload stuff in the same order as I did on the test board! Glad it's working for you. if you do the facelift first - then add any modifications, you'll be sure to have everything that's needed to work with the mod. Usually the best way.
