Okay - I already know the answer

But I have just made my upgraded forums live - http://forums.nonleague.com

Most people seem to like them, but are reporting two errors that I can't replicate - I am not saying my users are thick, but I have a little more faith in the users here

1) Some are saying that http://forums.nonleague.com does not fit on the screen - I have tried even going down to 800 * 600 and get no horizontal scroll

2) No-one can get into http://chat.nonleague.com - except me - I have tried two computers, two threads login's and can't get an error.

Am I going mad - have I finally lost it

Replies on a postcard to......

Perhaps it's stylesheet dependant as far as the scrolling issue goes. I did not have a problem but I'm at 1280x1024...

I'm running 1024x768. I have a tiny bit of scroll with Mozilla Firebird. I don't have any scroll with IE 6.

Okay I concur I am using Mozilla 1.4 and IE 6 and same as above no problems in IE6 and Mozilla tiny horizontal scroll but actually the page is still all on the frame. The scroll is too tiny to mention.

As far as the chat your guys are thick. I can almost tell ya what their problem is. If this is new for you and they are not big java dudes they are forgetting to hit install that chat java. I had so many problems when I first installed a java chat on my site. Even though I have Java on my computer your chat room asked if I wanted to trust that company java. It almost got lost behind the IE window. Usually those windows pop out front. This one seems to get lost. I hit yes and I was in the chat room in a second no problem at all. I visited it multiple times just to check and accessed chat no problem every time.

The chat is a problem for new users, like Chuck said. I have many people say "all I get is a gray box and nothing happens". I ask them how long they waited... "oh, about 5 seconds and closed the window". Told them it may take 15-30 seconds to fully load, depending on the computer.

Then a lot of people have WindowsXP installed that doesn't have java installed, had to point them to http://java.sun.com

Thanks guys.

I think one or two of them have now installed it - but I am getting comments like 'My username was takem' - 'I am being soammed to hell' - so goodness knows what they are seeing - I can't get in there myself, as I made the mistake of having two logins at the same time, whilst testing, and have been banned for a week.

I will have to write a 'how to' for my users. (unless Josh has already written one )

BTW - the left to right was being caused by the text box being set to large - need to run an SQL command and reduce it for everyone.

You got banned from your own site? How does that work?

It is not being banned from your site. When you access a chat network Slayer that is the IRC Network frame and they have their own user database etc. They can ban you for abuse or example of trying to steal a name etc etc.

Okay, thanks. That makes sense. I'm just not familier with IRC, or chat in general. I prefer message boards.

Found out that the script that we have does not work if your display names has spaces - that was what people meant by being spammed - essentially it was scrolling through hundreds of usernames, unable to use any. Will have to work some code out to eliminate that unless someone has already found a way around it.

Does anyone know of decent chat servers apart from dal.net?

Didn't quite work - but re-jigged it, and posted the fix under the thread in Modifications
