On the weekend I finaly upgraded from 6.2.3 to 6.3 on my production site (yes, I know 6.3.1 is now out, but I had already done all the patches to it and will do that next).
Anyways, each day since my daily bandwidth has been doubling daily. It seems to skyrocket for 4 hours a day and I"m trying to track down why. Visits, hits, pageviews, posts, logins, etc all seem to be similar.
What's the best way to figure this out and stop it?
Thanks,
Fred

What sort of statistics do you have available to you for your site? My bet would be on the graphics side of things. Do you have a lot of photos and graphics for viewing? Depending on the statistics package you may be able to see if these types of files are being accessed heavily. You can prevent "hot linking" with an .htaccess file. Search this forum for related posts on that.

Was Zlib compression on for your old version.... yet turned off in the new version. Turning Zlib compression on will reduce bandwidth as well.

Zlib on both versions I've only got the default ubb graphics in these logs/site which has had the more bandwidth tripple in 3 days.
webalizer reports hits, files, pages, visits, sites all being similar, but GB/day is going nuts on me.:(
I'm running this through webtrends now and I'll see if I can get more specifics, but it looks like the showflat.php has the biggest increase(had to tell as I only have monthly stats). I'll see what webtrends tells me in a daily format. Anyone know if showflat.php could have gotten bloated?

As far as I can tell there shouldn't be that big of a difference between the two versions. Did you have the viewing of user's profile pictures in posts off on the prior version and on with the new version? This could increase your bandwidth.

Did some more tracking... Before the upgrade kb and pageviews went pretty much evenly up and down throught the day.
Afterwards for about 4-6 hours in the middle of the day kbs by baloons 8-10 fold while page views are similar to the previous day.
checking php vs gif vs css files: .gif kb up by 10% - OK .css kb up by 10% - OK .php kb up by 235% - NOT OK number of calls to php files up by 3%.
The top three .php file by far is showflat, postlist, and ubbthreads. Dig into the stats on these more now and see if perhaps this came about from an updated mod or some other wierdness.
PS, any chance some of the default display numbers has change, or people can display too many results causing this???

Were they crawling your site? Strange... Glad you got it sorted out.
