Well, on the recent posts regarding site statistics, I figured this would be an interesting one as well for those of you running stats programs We average right around 9-10 million hits per month, but this month already, we're on pace for 12-13 million hits because of an article in a newspaper this week Average visits are between 30,000-50,000 a month.

hits or unique visitors? the stats available to me define a 'hit' as the transfer of any file. A web page with 2 graphics in it would create 3 hits. (but not always since the browser can cache the graphics and not request them) I just looked at last month's hits and I had a little over 8 million hits but I have a lot of small graphics being used... (this is going to be changed at some point when I have time to work on my own site) LoL

which stats program are you using? Mine were from webalizer.. where visitors count as unique visits, whereas hits counts as every page loaded, or as you mentioned maybe even every single image... I'm not real clear on that myself

I'm not sure what the name of the stats program is. I think it's an in house one. They explain that every hit is a file that's transfered to the browser so external javascripts, style sheets, graphics and the pages themselves count as hits. (I guess)

I wish these terms were standardized among programs, because in the old days a hit was just when someone clicked on your website. Now it can mean every single file transfered, which is a large misrepresentation of people who "hit" your website

While we're on this topic, I was looking at my other stats program, Analog Stats. Now, they display two main numbers. # of requests, and # of pages. Well by golly, wouldn't you know, these numbers do not correlate with anything webalizer has reported By these stats, the number of requests is on average about 16 million per month. This is much higher than the 9-10 million that webalizer is reporting. So.. I would assume requests would be every single request made to the server, whether it is an image, php script, etc. But, then what would a "hit" be? Obviously it couldn't be just strictly pages, because each page would have many images on it. Although.. repeat visitors store these in cache, so they may not pull them from the server... oh hell, this is giving me a headache But for whatever it is worth... just some pretty numbers Kinda cool to see a number over 1 billion in there. Successful requests: 1,037,887,377 Average successful requests per day: 3,673,928 Successful requests for pages: 4,917,336 Average successful requests for pages per day: 17,406 Failed requests: 4,118,401 Redirected requests: 4,196,838 Distinct files requested: 1,164,860 Distinct hosts served: 157,190 Corrupt logfile lines: 1 Data transferred: 3.575 terabytes Average data transferred per day: 12.960 gigabytes

Possibly the request wasn't filled if it was a request for something that didn't exist any longer? LoL yeah it's hard to say with so many different points of view being used to explain your statistics. I don't keep track of my stats except only when asked about them. Then I have to go look. I guess mostly because I just like doing it and I don't care what the stats are because to me it doesn't matter.

OK - Webalizer Hits for july 76710019 Yup - that's over 76 million hits. But our photo gallery was mega active in July and we had a little "publicity" from the national enquirer. 7 or 8 million hits a month is more like the norm for us. Now if I can make July happen again.

Hi,
We're doing slightly over 3 million hits a month, with around 38-45K visits / month. Serving close to a million pages a month.

Webalizer fixed We are running at around 7 million hits a month. But I prefer visits, and that is around 1,000 a day on average. Strangly though we only average around 30-50 online at any one time. Need to get Urchin 5 up and running - that should give a better picture of traffic I believe.

I think we are using different terms. www.ls1tech.com is: 1,750,000 hits per day 95,000 page views per day 80,000 unique visitors per month Average visitor views 55.8 pages per visit 300 - 350 online

It all really depends on what's considered a hit... The stats package I use on my Threads site says that the board gets about 44 million "hits" a month. But it also records pageviews, which would translate to script request... that's "only" 13 million, which boils down to about 400,000 script pageviews a day. (The scripts are the only thing on that particular domain...) Jeez, I'm glad I only admin the server...

Sure - the referrer is any page it comes from when viewing another page. So indeed many people go from one of your pages to another page. Thus they are referred from a page on your site. If you don't see that.... it means people are only visiting one page and leaving.

I've just added RetroStats to my pages, which is showing around 1,000 visits a day. - although every package will report something different. Quite like Urchin 5 for records.

2208 visits per day is about where I'm at
There are currently 33 people online (actual people)
My average visits per day is 1068, but that's going back a year, when it was way slower.
4.2 page views per visit according to sitemeter; 19 according to Alexa (skewed)
