For sites with many boards, the standard way to go is to default the main index to showing categories, so users can drill down.

Question: is it possible to organizing a different way, by creating different main index views? So there could be a "main index" showing boards A, B, C, and D, and another one showing boards A, D, E, and F?

I'm using 6.2.1 and I absolutely can't upgrade (way too many tweaks, way too few programmer assets)

Creating links which pass the Cat= variable would limit what categories are displayed.

Adding ?Cat=2 would display just category 2.

Adding ?Cat=2,4,8 would display just categories 2, 4 and 8.... so you can easily kind of limit what information is displayed by adding links into the menu bar or into your header with thos cat variables.

Is it possible to do the same for different "bundles" of individual boards (rather than categories)?

i.e. a "main index" showing boards A, B, C, and D, and another one showing boards A, D, E, and F?

I may not want all boards from category 1 included in a given grouping. Or is that a limiting factor? (again, I'm using 6.2.1)

No - currently it's just possible to build in limiting the viewing to categories.
