I have set the path and tried chmoding the directory to 666 and 777 and still get the following message when I click the link to test the directory in the config settings in admin:
Directory results Testing '/home/to/directory/on/server'
but is not writeable.
Can anyone figure out why this is not working? I am using 6.3.1. Thanks.

Are all the directories leading up to /server set to 666 (at least)?

Ignore the test. Chmod the directory to 777. Try uploading and let us know if it works. Somethimes the tests...hicup.

I don't think the upper directories need to be writable, but they need to be accessible. 555 would probably be adequate.
