Between Mandrake 9.2 and Suse 9.0 (which I believe are the most current versions), what would you recommend to someone who will be transitioning away from Red Hat? All opinions and personal experience welcome.

I've always used redhat and mandrake here at home, and I really like the latest mandrake. I tried SuSE, but it wasn't version 9, so I can't comment on that as much.

I ordered Mandrake 9.2 from cheapiso.com for about four dollars, so I know I'll give that a shot at least. I also ordered Slackware 9.1, but I believe that will be over my head. Is it true that Mandrake has good automatic updates? I heard thay it even updates your fonts with Windows fonts.

Only updates NOT to do automatically with Mandrake are kernel ones..Everything else is pretty seemless.. I downloaded 9.2 and it runs pretty smoothly.. I even got PostFix and DNS to work out of the iso..

I have redhat 9.0 running on about a dozen servers but with the changes with redhat, and Novell buying Suse I decided to give Suse a try since I have 5 Novell servers running also. It should be here today so I am anxious to give it a try. Will keep you posted.

I just finished installing SuSe Pro V 9.0 after using Redhat for years I have to say its different, mostly directory structure. In Redhat the webpage are in /var/www/html. In SuSe they are in /srv/www/htdocs once I got past these few differences things went pretty good. I have still got to figure out how to get secure ftp and secure telnet to work, SuSe wont let me in with cuteftp or putty. Once I get past this I would say my site is back to normal. I have it running on my weather site at http://alawx.com for the next few day it may be up and down as I tinker with it

I'm giving Mandrake 9.2 a whirl at the moment. I was also going to try Slackware 9.1, but their is no driver for my USB keyboard, so the installation never got started. And stupidly enough, there are no PS/2 ports on the motherboard! WTF? Anyhow, I'm also going to try out SuSE 9.0 soon
