Would anyone be able to help me out with a query to manually remove a user from a particular group w/o affecting any of the other groups that a particular user might belong to? The admin interface on my install (6.2.2) has always been a little funky in regards to removing a user from a particular group. I can add them... getting them back out of the group is another thing altogether

Thanks in advance.

I don't think that can be updated with a query alone. You'd need a script.

As the users may have various values like this for the U_Groups field:

Josh - -3-2-1-
JoeBloe -3-5-
Pete -3-5-8-
John -3-8-1

So while you can

UPDATE w3t_Users
SET U_Group = '-3-'
WHERE U_Username = 'Pete'

That will change -3-5-8- to -3- and blow out any other groups they were in.

You'd need a script to read the value of -3-5-8- and remove the -5 from whatever group they already were a part of.

Now if you know what groups that user should belong to - and it's only a couple of users you have to adjust, then the query above should help you. Just keep in mind you're updating the group field all together, not adding to or removing from it.

Josh

It is a very small number of users and I think you've given me exactly what I need. Thank you. I appreciate the 1 AM help... you ever sleep?!

LOL

No - I've been playing major catchup since vacation. So I gotta catchup first.

I've done Five server transfers/upgrades in the last day and a half.

Well... normally I would be empathetic... but you've had yourself 2 vacations in the last month. LOL

And here's what came of my attempt to remove said user from that group:

Error

SQL-query :

UPDATE w3t_Users SETU_Group = '-3-7-' WHERE U_Username = 'Jamie Friebel'

MySQL said:

Unknown column 'U_Group' in 'field list'

I tried it through the admin interface and through phpmyadmin... same deal. Any ideas?

Well... if I knew my hindquarters from my elbow I'd be able to catch little goofs in syntax and not have to bug you repeatedly at 1:30 AM!

Thanks Josh.
