I have noticed that in this forum when you click on things like "View my Post" after you make a post, especially in a long topic, it takes you right to the post. the link is this: http://www.here.com/forum/showflat....&o=all&fpart=&vc=#Post104110 Well on my site, this type of link does not show up. When you press "view my post" it brings you to the top of the page. The link looks like this: http://www.mysite.net/bomberjackets/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB7&Number=10957 It fails to tak you to the precise post but instead brings you to the top of the page. (links bad to protect the innocent. ) What do I have to change to fix this for all of my links? I recently installed the current threads mod by photopost but I had this problem B4 his addon; it is just now much more bothersome as when one clicks on the current post link, it takes them to the top of the page instead of to the precise post.

I'd verify your files against unmodified files. This should be standard behavior. I'd user something like beyond compare to compare your addpost.php script to a stock one, and look for where the anchor tag gets figured out.

And will this fixing of adpost make it so that when you click the topic name, like in this main index, it will take you to the most recent post?

Should have said "I'd use..." Use software like "Beyond Compare" from www.scootersoftware.com to find differences from your addpost.php and a stock one. What you are asking for is standard behavior, so I think your files are messed up.

I got the software you recommended Josh.
I compared my adpost and the original... 3 differences. Uploaded the original, recompared. Perfect match.
My problem still persists. If I click on somthing that should link to a specific post way down a page, it brings me only to the TOP of the page.

Hey you know, now that I think about this.... i remember something similar. Check your forum header to make sure it's all valid HTML. An open tag in your header or anything else you modified can cause anchor tags to stop working.

I removed the header altogether and it still reacted similarly. I did make a discovery thoguh. I will describe here. Any link in the entrance page to a specific post number in the main forum leads only to the top thread and not to the specific post. However, if I go to the Main index and then click on one of the "Last Post" links, it works fine. That is, it goes right to the psot in question and NOT to the top of the thread. Here are links to the same post, one form the entrance page current threads, and one from the "Last post" in the Main Page area. Both are supposed to be to the same post fro same user. Entrance linkhttp://www.mysite.net/bomberjackets/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=unearth&Number=11006"Last Post"http://www.mysite.net/bomberjackets/show...11006#Post11539Hope this helps a little bit.

When you say "Entrance Link" where is this link appearing? Whereever it is, you'll have to check the scripts to see the URL's getting generated. I'm guessing that an altered script is leaving the anchor tag off.
Before I thought you said it didn't work right after you posted, but maybe you meant from the postlist.php script?
There is no setting or anything that would make that misbehave. I'm assuming your scripts are modified, you might need to replace postlist/showflat templates and scripts with clean copies and see if that narrows it down.

yeah, it does not work right when it is created either. when i press "view your post" it goes to the top of the thread.
"Entrance Link" is on the Entrance page in the "current threads" box. It can also be from the Past threads box as well, both links are the same and yield the same results.

Josh, does it make it a different matter to let oyu be aware of the fact that have The IIP active on the site? I assumed that by telling you the links worked ill on the "Entrance Page" that you would assumes it was the IIP type of forum. It seems to be only the links in all of the boxes that are on the "Entrance Page" on the IIP. ALl of those links go to only the top of the page rather than to the exact post. Sorry.

IIP shouldn't make a difference. Invalid HTMl can cause trouble with the anchor tags. You'd have to view the HTML source and see if the anchor tags are on the links.

alll the references i the scripts within the ubbthreads, php and such have a referrence to "Main= something. None of the link referrences in the PALS scripts for IIP have the MAIN= in the link code. I installed the IIP onto a fresh installed forum one one pf my test forums with no mods today and it reacts similarly. IS this a bug that no one has really uncovered in the IIP perhaps? Or am I vexed?

You have me kinda confused... so I'm not really sure what problem we are talking about. One minute you're talking about the links on postlist, the next the link after you enter the post, and now IIP. I'm not really following. Post any IIP issues to the IIP thread. If this thread is about the anchor tag in a link not working, you've never asnwered my origial question. If you're saying the problem is that it doesn't "jump" down the page (HTML Anchor Tag)... you need to view the HTML sorce for the page and see if the anchor tag is physically part of the link. That's what I'd check first. If you can't solve it, and it's unhacked, and we're not able to understand the exact problem here, you'll probably need to open a ticket with infopop to have it looked at or hire someone to do some advanced troubleshooting for you.

If you were to provide a link to your site so that we could try what you're mentioning and actually see the behavior, that would help clear up what the actual problem is. I can usually decode what the actual problem is, but I can't figure out exactly what the problem is that you're expierencing.

I had been posting in the section IIP as you asked Josh... should I follow up here or there?
I did post a question back there that I dont want to repeat here.
I guess I can set up the site to allow guests to view the topics, its a members only type of place so its not easy just to give the link out.
I'll do that if you cant go by what I added in the IIP topic.

I thought you were trying to report a bug. But it turns out that's the way it works. I did tell what field you'd have to query to get the last post in the thread.

. OK. I guess my post I just made in the IIP sections needs deleted as I replied to your post there. How exactly can I add the quesry? I am not a coding king in any respect, maybe a coding fool or a coding idiot but I definately dont know the first thign I would need to do to do this. Can I get help here on the forming of the syntax or is there a spot I can cut and paste from in another script? btw, when I press "view my post" on my site after making a reply, it takes me to the top of the thread and not to the post. This was PART of the problem I am trying to fix here but not as important to me as what I am now asking for with the current threads mod. maybe I will address this bug after I get the current threads working like I want,

[] Omegatron said:Look at the query structure and anchor tag from the YASM 2.0 Mod that should give you a rough search to compare to. [/] How do I identify an "anchor tag"? I got the script for YASM and I am confused. I am terribly sorry but I am trying to learn.

Okay the anchor tag is the one you place in postlist.tmpl in that mod. That should give you an idea on what an anchor tag is

I am apparently missing something.

You've never answered anything that I've asked you to provide (is the anchor tag there when you view the HTML source), nor have you given a link. So we're probably at the limit of what else we can help you with. I've never 100% understood the problem you were having as we've jumped around alot taking about all sorts of different things. So it's tough for anyone to tell if there's a real issue, or if there's a user or install error. If the board is unmodified, you might want to open a ticket with infopop, or if it's hacked, consider hiring someone here to take a look.

I meant the search.tmpl
Actually you can view anchor tags in most of the templates.
Like Josh said many people have asked you questions on the exact nature of your problem with little response.
