Hi all
i'm using .: IIP 5.4.4 by David Lozier ©2004 :. can i add metatags to that index page, as in google it just shows as 'AF : the entrance'. I'd like to add keywords and decription etc.
Can I do that?
Thanks again!

Meta tags go in the "header-insert" section of your Admin menu.

Why would you want it only to be on your index page? No harm is done by having keywords and description on all pages, it can even help. Look at the source for this page, and any of my pages. Meta tags out the wazoo!

No - the meta tags are sent as part of .Threads send_header function. Every page in threads uses this - including IIP.
You'd have to rewrite the send header function to make it work differently.

From what I'm told by a collegue that specializes in SEO, there are only two search engine sites that reply on meta tags. I don't recall which though. She said they use text on the page as a way of indexing your pages.

* How come the metatags in the source for this page have a slash before the close of the tag? []<meta name="ROBOTS" content="INDEX, FOLLOW" />[/] * None of the other html seems to...

This is XHTML. XHTML specifies that ALL tags must be closed. For example, in theory <br> does not NEED a closing tag, since it just specifies a single line break. XHTML uses the slash and uses the single tag of <br/>, thus opening and closing the tag in one swoop. Another common example is the <img> tag. This does not need closing in HTML since all of the information is included in the <img> tag. In XHTML you would use <img scr="image.gif"/> If I have totally confused you, check out http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/#diffs for more information.
