I'm wondering if there is a way to change the length of the log in names. also is there a way to enable special characters in the log in name..

i'm using UBB.threads 6.2.3

Thanks in advance.

You can specify username lengths and the ability to use special characters in the"Edit Config Settings" then "User settings" area of your Admin page. I am currently running 6.4, so I am not positive if that ability is in 6.2.3 but I think its the same.

I see what you are talking about... but those are for display names..

I want to change the users login name to allow more than 16 characters and allow the use of special characters.

Currently not - originally this was because everything was linked together by login name. But everything has since been linked together by user number now.

So, I might be missing a reason, but offhand I can't think of a reason.

You'd have to go code diving in adduser.php to modify the length checks on it - and you might need to see if the database field is wide enough.

You can do that without problems.
I modified a board to use the e-mail address as loginname. Worked without any database modifications. Just change the adduser.php as Josh said.

I had a quick glance at this and it appears as if the only settings for length in the adduser.php are calls to the $config file where they are defined only for the display name, I didn't see anything in there for login name.
