my initial welcome message is sent from user 2 I have no user 2 so people are saying that they say they have a message but can't read it.
How do I change all new welcome messages to be from a different user. and or how would I phrase my qwery to purge all messages that have never been read that are older than 6 months?

The board really should have a user number two for a variety of reasons. You can change the number that the PM comes from in adduser.php - but to fix a couple of things, I'd create a "Administrator" user and change it's user to user number 2.
