I am running UBB.threads v6.4.2 .. The problem I have is, when I enter a forum and see the number of new posts in red brackets since the last visit, I then click on a thread, and it doesn't take me to the first post I haven't viewed but stays at the first post. Is this fixable?

That is a known bug - the fix is posted in the bug forum at www.ubbcentral.com - but basically the anchor tag is incorrect when clicking the link.

It's still worth having on IMO it makes the boards much easier to track and once you learn how to work around it, it's a piece of cake
