I would like to give new users a chance to register a new nick ONLY one per hour.

I had some guy who generated for about 300 new usernames in 20 sec period. He was probably running a script (dunno) and we weren't really verifying emails - now we do

So, is there a mod for random generated number in picture that user would have to insert before making the actual request for a registration?

Anything else that would prevent spam? How about those formated (I guess rewrite is used) urls with &'s replaced by / - would that help?

Also is there "auto ban IP mod" if user posts more than X posts per Y time (e.g. 2posts/10min)?

Kind regards,

Integrating such a turing/captcha protection shouldn't be hard. There are several classes out there which can generate such an image. But there's no mod for it yet.

Url rewriting wouldn't prevent such spammers to register.

There's no auto ban mod for spammers, but there's a spam protection mod. You restrict the number of posts in a certain period of time with it.

But the email verification or at the very least, require the password to be emailed should prevent that too - particularly if you require unique email addresses, then you'd need a new email address for each name. It would make it much more tiedious.

It would make it much more tedious too!

Been there, done that

We still get spammed if someone pust a random generated password: Server and bandwidth cost + lots of emails
Instead of sending an email for each registration a PM would be more convenient

How could you PM a user who is not yet registered?

I c - that's why I spent 1h searching (php +random +image +register) for those classes

No, really - I couldn't find them

I found BlueShoes Spam Image but IT IS [:"red"]not[/] included in the framework

Then I found Image Creatin Script ( Leonardo's homepage ) at PHPBuilder and a sample image I would like to create.

Damn'... I just searched for "image verification" and got a bunch of classes at Planet Source Code Sorry Astaran - my bad
Verification tutorial
Verification class

So, when I have time I will create a mod based on this findings

Oh - that's something different. That's user approval. You can comment out the line which sends the emails if you don't want admins to receive notification.
