I have a user using Microsoft Internet Explorer Version:
6.0.2800.1106. I'm running Threads 6.4.1.

He says:

I am experiencing troubles while accessing the site. After I enter my password, logged in, and click on forums or main index or any other links, it will return me to a 'user not logged in' page.

I've tried your suggestion of the cookie tool, but the same things happen (i.e whenever i try logging in, it will log in
but when i click onto any links such as 'Main Index'
'My Home' etc, it will state that i'm not logged in
and ask me to log in again, and again, and again... !)

He says cookies are enabled. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this? I can log in from my computer using his details. I've had similar complaints but only the last couple of days.

Cheers guys, appreciated as ever.

PS: Unless I disable Norton Internet Security, I can't post on Threadsdev

He's provided more info:

i managed to get round the problem by clicking on
'Search' immediately after logging in, (this time it
didn't request for me to log in again), and then
select 'News' and 'Reports' once
in the 'Search' page. The news then begin to download
onto my screen.

It isn't the conventional (hassle-free) way of
accessing the news, but that would do for now.
The conventional way of logging in and going straight
to the Forums is still not working for me. If you
manage to solve the mystery, please let me know, but
for now, i've book-marked the pages and so far, i can
still access it via the bookmarks (strange!).

And more info:

I'd also cut and paste the error message i found while
trying all kinds of ways to access your website
earlier...

SQL ERROR: Database error only visible to forum
administrators

Warning: Cannot add header information - headers
already sent by (output started at
/usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/koptalkinsider.com/httpdocs/forums/mysql.inc.php:219)
in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/koptalkinsider.com/httpdocs/forums/ubbt.inc.php
on line 269

And whenever i'd logged into the 'My Home' after
keying in the username and password, this error
message will appear just above the "MY HOME FOR
MEZZORELIEVO" header...

SQL ERROR: Database error only visible to forum
administrators

And I can't seem to view any 'Recieved Private
Messages'. I try clicking on them but no message
appear.

I can log in using his name without problem. I do see the SQL error in bold in MY HOME - but everyone has that at the moment - but I can freely move around the site as him

Actually, it says he has one received message but when I click on that to log into messages received, there's nothing there?

sounds almost like a cookie issue have you tried having him clear all cookies?

That's what I thought. He says he has and he says he's used the cookie tool.

Using the cookie tool has always worked for my users so I'm not sure what's up with this one user. Like scroungr mentioned, I would have him clear all the cookies through IE.

Also have him make sure his computer's date and time is correct.

If he has a PM but it's not there, it's most likely the "welcome PM" which comes from the main board admin (user#2). If your board doesn't have a user#2 then this message won't appear.

Yes Josh. I think it is the welcome PM. How do I find out if I have a user #2? I don't think I have but I was sure the welcome message went out ok.

I'll ask him about the time and report back.

He's just sent me this email:

Hi Dunk,

Now, I couldn't access MY HOME (again). Whenever i
logged in and click MY HOME, it will ask me to log in
again, and I log in again, the same thing happens.

I've used the cookie tool link you sent me earlier, http://www.koptalkinsider.com/forums/mycookies.php
and cut and paste the cookie value (if it helps)

Current Cookie Information
Cookie Name Cookie Value
w3t_myid 3452
w3t_key 17cdfc6fc5fadaaec5877ae6cf66b501
w3t_language english
he llo
in vue
h2 o
w3t_mysess 4aec1b3435c52abbdf8334ea0e7141e0
w3t_visit -euro2004=1088909620-

I then proceed to expire the cookies, and try logging
in again. But the problem persist. It just won't go
away for some reason. With an empty cookie cache, i
logged in, and click MY HOME, it tells me to log in
again, and again and again...

I know it is frustrating for me and for you to keep
recieving emails from me telling you it can't work,
but i really doubt it's the cookie problem.

I've gone to the Windows Update site and check for
updates but my system is completely up to date (so
they say). By the way, I'm using Windows 2000
Professional as an O/S. (if it matters in anyway)

And yes, now the SQL error message no longer appear,
but i still cannot get to read my RECEIVED PRIVATE
MESSAGE in my koptalk email account.

Now i'm trying to send you a private msg with the
koptalk email, let me know if you receive it in your
koptalk email. Your username is Dunk ?

Also: it is interesting to know that whenever i point
my mouse over the MY HOME link after i log in, my I.E
at the bottom left corner of the screen states that
i'll be clicking on this :

http://www.koptalkinsider.com/forums/login.php?Cat=

while the rest of the links such as SEARCH, MAIN
INDEX, WHOS ONLINE, FAQ, CALENDER is working fine.

It could be the link problem, but since no one else is
having that problem i'm facing, i'm really clueless.

Dunk,

I went to Control Panel in my Windows O/S and double
check my time/date and timezone. It is set correctly
as far as i'm concerned. 6:44am W.Australia Standard
Time.

I cleared all the cookies on my I.E by going to TOOLS
> INTERNET OPTIONS > DELETE COOKIES & DELETE FILES.

Have him try a different browser, that'll narrow it down if it's a firewall issue, a browser issue or what. Not really any way on your end to cause that kind of trouble... so it's got to be an issue on his end.
