Like another poster, I'm having disk quota problems with our active message board (passporterboards.com). We are moving to a dedicated server with plenty of space in a few months, but I'm 38 weeks pregnant and I can't do it right now. So I need to work with what I have for a while.

The problem I'm having is that I'm taking up space too fast. Last night at 2:00 am I was at 1804 MB -- this afternoon I'm at 1850 MB. 50 MB in 12 hours seems WAY too fast to me, and unfortunately I can't tell if that's all going in the message board or somewhere else on our site (not that we've even done anything to the web site in a week). I checked the uploaded files in the last few days to see if some member was going nuts with the uploads, but that's not the problem. In fact, I deleted an entire month of member-uploaded files recently and it only totalled 20 MB. And there hasn't been any unusual activity on the board lately either. Is 50 MB in 12 hours really possible, or could something weird be going on? Our board has about 8000 members and 550,000 posts. I've been watching our disk usage in the last 10 minutes and it's gone up a few MB in that time.

Any ideas or theories would be appreciated!

Have you checked your log files? They might be responsible for the odd growth...

Jennifer - I just checked. I didn't remember your exact database size since the last time I checked, but it's currently around 330 MB - so that's about what I remember. We're not using admin or mysql logging in threads.
They have MySQL issues all the time, so the logs would get huge as soon as there was trouble.

Looks like your server log files rotate and it keeps two days worth. The server logs for the 27th was 90.72 MB. So probably the size you're seeing, is as charles said, log files.

I'll watch the database size now that I've taken note of it, but I think the size is creeping up somewhere else on your site. Also - anybody with an email account on the server could be emailing large files and/or need to clean out their mailbox.

Yep, it was the log files. I didn't suspect that since I'd told the web host to delete old logs, but apparently that setting was reset and it wasn't deleting them. Thank you all!

Good - yeah the DB is still ~330 MB.
