I hate to bug you guys but I have one more question to ask. Thanks to the wonderful mod of checking IPs, I've been able to determine that I have two users coming from the same IP. One user happens to be a complete poo-poo head and I thought he was just using multiple accounts to play head games with my members. The other person (or personality depending on how you look at it) is a great member so you see my immediate hesitation. After approaching him (the poo-poo head) with this evidence, he tells me that it's him and a friend on two different machines sharing a lan connection. My question is is there *any* way I can determine if these posts are coming from the same computer? Maybe session id or something?

Hi, We are using the Multiple Identity Detector hack for exactly this. Sanuk!

Looks promising. I'll try it out, thanks! Does it send a PM/email to only admins or admins a mods? I'd prefer my mods not to see this.

Now that you've confronted the "poo poo head" see if his activity, or the good member's acitivity, drops off. If one, or both, of them practicly quit posting then you've probably caught one mental individual... Even if it is one person logged on from a single machine session IDs may not help since each "user" is going to have a different session (two different browser windows). It is possible that it's two people on one LAN sharing a connection via a DSL router (for example). Have the two of them ever posted in the same thread, and if so how do they treat each other?

They've gotten into some pretty hefty arguements if you can believe it. I installed the script recommended above and it flagged him/them not even ten minutes later. I took a chance and sent them a PM confronting them with this news and neither of them have logged in since.
If it really was two different people and this caused me to lose a nice guy along with the "not so nice" guy, I suppose it's a hit I'll have to live with.

I don't see how it could not be the same person. It's the same computer after all because that detector tracks by cookie. Do him and his phantom roommate argue with each other at the same time on the computer screen? lol Plus the fact that 'they' would both immediately quit posting is a dead-giveaway. Surely, the guy is a fruitloop. Welcome to the internet

Hi,
"Does it send a PM/email to only admins or admins a mods?"
Only admins AFAIK.

I agree with Twisty; the only thing you lost was a phyco...
