This is on a friend's site, but I helped him set it up a long while back. He had the following disabled by his server admin: popen, exec, shell_exec, system.

Through some quick goofing off, I figured out the old server backup (6.4.4 and prior) uses the system() php command to back files up.

Is there a good and quick way for me to fix this for him? He does not want to upgrade, but I do not want to screw up his existing setup.

phpMyAdmin was my first response!

phpMyBackup is nice - a simplier version of phpMyAdmin for restoring and backing up. You can backup to an FTP server too.
