I've got Threads 6.5 installed on my Mac running OS 10.3.7 and PHP Version 4.3.10. Everything works wonderfully except the email function. I tried upgrading PHP and all that did was break everything. It was a horrible mess. I had to uninstall it and reinstall version 4.3.10.

So anyway, I tried editing my php.ini file and nothing seems to work. At the moment I'm telling all my board members "Don't forget your password because if you do, you're hooped."

Has anyone been able to get the mail function to work on a set-up similar to mine? UBB.Classic was so easy to set up using SMTP. I just had to enter my Sendmail Path (Unix) and my SMTP host.

Have you checked that the path to sendmail is correctly set in your php.ini?

I solved it! Panther comes with the application Postfix which can be used in place of sendmail. I downloaded an application called Postfix Enabler. It very easily sets up SMTP, POP3, and IMAP services (with or without SSL support). This only works on OS 10.3 (Panther) and doesn't work on OS X Server.

I only wish I had known about it earlier. It took me less than 10 minutes which is better than the hours (and hours) I've been putting into trying to get sendmail to work.

Just something to keep in mind for anyone else trying to get the email function to work on OS X.
