Hi Datal,
You have the most results returned out of the 4 Threads members. However, Allen is out pacing you on points because his computer is processing more.
If you look at the member comparison you will see that your machine averages just over 15 hours of cpu time per day. Allen's computer is averaging just over 21 hours per day. Your average point per hour is not to different, so you probably have machines that rank fairly similarly...yours seems a bit higher.
You are probably processing work units quicker, hence more results, but it isn't running continuously. If that was the case, you would likely overtake him in time. Of course, if anyone adds a second or third machine that changes things entirely.

Hey Allen,
Trying to figure out this point system... Tell me what kind of system are you running this UD thing on?
I am a :
P3 933 512mb RAM 10gigs HD allocated but a 56k Dialup
Trying to figure out why system's that take longer to do keys get more points then a system that does them pretty fast and regularly doesn't... That entire point system is confusing []/forum/images/icons/frown.gif[/]

Datal,
Please post the performance rating for your machine. You can view both the overall and the component scoring. The overall machine rating is made up of a weighted average.
Processor is the most important. Memory and Network next, and HD Allocation is the least important in ranking.
Looking at your specifications, you probabably have ~50 on CPU, ~150 on Mem, ~200 on Storage and are getting smoked on the dialup. You can't do much more tweak it, other than a faster connection.
The way the points work is: if machine A is twice as fast as machine B, machine A will score twice as many points per cpu time. However it takes half the time to do the job. In numbers, lets say A rates a 30 and B a 15. Both computers work for 10 hours. In that time A has completed 2 tasks (5 hours for each) and B 1. A gets 30 pts x 5 = 150 pts for each task x 2 tasks = 300 points. B gets 15 points x 10 hours = 150 points.
They both earned the same number of points per task, 150 points. But since A did it in half of the time, A did a second task and earned another 150 points.
Comparing the stats of the example, The average number of points per task is the same 150. But the average number of points per cpu hour is 30 vs. 15.
There are some quirks about the scoring system, but that is how it is supposed to work. Different systems should round out to earning about the same per task...such that a slow older machine can still churn away on a work unit, and a new blazing comp can crank them out. The more you get done, the more points you earn.
Improve you score by processing more units (improve performance), or by adding additional machines (I have 2 machines running pretty much continuously).

My Scores:
Overall - 111 Processor - 95 Memory - 134 Storage - 196 Network - 100 (It seems to think I still have DSL when I don't...
The thing is... I am connected most of the time thus when it is time to transmit there is a connection and doesn't have to wait... most of the time... I dunno... I am still kicking Allen's butt in the Threads department :-P

Wow, those are suprisingly higher than I expected. Can't complain there.
The network score has always been a bit flaky. It is "suuposed" to test your network connection when you are transmitting your results/receiving a new work unit.
My Lan connect at work is presently 100, and at home I have cable and I've seen the score fluctuate from 80-100.
It's weird because my cpu is currently rating 103, and it is a mobile PIII-1.0gHz compared to the benchmark P4-1.5gHz
Here are my current stats: Overall: 112, CPU: 103, Mem: 134, Storage: 157, Net: 100

Two weeks, ago or so, I took it out of my startup folder, so now my ratings for this should be going down... I only use it when Im offline. I still use modem connection (no options yet []/forum/images/icons/frown.gif[/] ), and Im guessing I need a better modem as it frequently disconnects. Thought it might be because of memory ussage. On average, UD uses 33MB of my memory, uff!

How did you do it before? Just an FYI, I have a PIII 700 (work laptop) and a PIII 733 (home desktop) running and that's why I'm climbing so fast. I'm trying to scrounge up another PIII at work, but I can't get it running. []/forum/images/icons/frown.gif[/] Heh, competition is fun.... []/forum/images/icons/smile.gif[/]

I really feel the same way. My grandfather died from prostate cander and my father has skin cancer. I do this because of my hope that it will result in a cure for a disease that has affected my family.

Couldn't agree more. The one thing about avatars like this, is that it helps to spread the word through the forum users - and so in turn helps to get closer to finding that cure. Ian

Have you tried seeing if the user title will support HTML? That would be my suggestion. You can then just edit the profile of the person and put the HTML code in that links to the image. Unless you're looking for something that's automated. That might take a bit of engineering.

I tried that, and it worked somewhat, until the profile was viewed, then the html really messed that up

Ah, didn't think about that. Perhaps the PHP-guru JustDave can come up with a quick fix.

Actually, in thinking about this, it would be pretty easy to do. I started to write out how to do it, but then the post got too long. I'll write it up as a hack and stick it in the Beta Modifications forum. I'm thinking of using a drop-down box for images that will allow an administrator to select various ones of their choosing (input at the time the modification is made). That will make administration a little easier.

Okay, one big problem. I'm trying to figure out UBB.threads uses the radio buttons or drop-down form boxes. For example, with the radio buttons used for the post icons, the template code looks like this: code: <input type="radio" name="Icon" value="blush.gif" $blush /><img src="{$config['images']}/icons/blush.gif" alt="{$ubbt_lang['ICON_BLUSH']}" />
The question I have is what the $blush does. Anyone have any ideas?

Yep, I figured that one out after doing a search on the variable and finding it farther up in the code. So, I have the hack completed. Currently it uses static image definitions that exist within the code (i.e. the filenames, etc.). I'm going to play around tonight with moving that all into a separate table in the database with unique identifiers that would then be linked in the Users table by the profile edit. The idea is to provide not only an image, but also possibly a Tool Tip that explains what the image does as well as a link to the Team's home page. I imagine that this hack could have practical applications beyond United Devices for those who run boards where they would like to assign custom images to users for some reason or another (i.e. monetary contributors, etc.). By placing the information in a separate table, I can create a file that will allow the table to be edited from the Admin Control panel which makes the management of the images MUCH easier than having to modify the code. Should have that ready tonight for Allen to mess around with.
