Hmm the pictures are a bit blurry on my comp, but I would prefer the second one. It matches better with the light bulbes.....

Oh the top one definately looks best, but it all depends on what attitude and tone you want to set. The bottom one looks to dark and depressing and light bulb colors are easy to change. Better still why not use something totally original instead of lightbulbs. For example my site is a love based site and we have hearts that beat on and off when a new post is there. If your site is on pet care you could have two dogs, one (representing off) would be standing still, and the other (representing on) could have the same dog but with his tail wagging. Or if your site is a automotive site you could use little cars and flash the headlights for your 'on' icon. You get the idea
